@Npham95 aww I thought I read they cover up to 5,000, my perkin loan is only 900. But every bit helps!
@onmyway8, yea if they really give 5000, it would have been a full ride for me but well that’s what they put on the website! nonetheless, PAL is just PAL. May the luck be with you when the FAN is provided.
Thanks! I have a $1 COA so I have 9,200 of unmet need after grants. Hopefully, they’ll give me a tiny bit more!
Where does it say they’ll cover your Perkins loan?
http://alumni.ucla.edu/leadership/asc/default.aspx . in the monetary benefit section. @LuckyName
@Npham95 that says “Grants replace subsidized Stafford and Perkins loans and any work-study positions.”
So it’s just not Perkins loans? It’s Perkins. Subsidized, and work-study, with a max of $5,000. Hmmm?
@LuckyName Perkins loans are subsidized and different from the federal subsidized as well as fed unsubsidized loans. Work-study, on the other hand, is straightforwardly mentioned so i would say in general they may give more aids that equal to the sum of Perkins loan and work-study.
Tbh, That is my interpretation and I am by no mean trying to be pessimistic as i know all of us hope for the max 5000 but I just thought I would trynna have a forward interpretation this time since it’s money and i didn’t want to disappoint myself when i look at my FAN lol!
Hey guys, my ePAL just updated and they actually gave me 2000 plus my Perkins and the unsubsidized loan (this I’m not sure ) so in the end I have a loan option of 4650 instead of instead of 7200 like before
@Npham95 Are you sure? So your “UCLA ALUMNI COMMUNITY COLLEGE” amount under grants and scholarships is more than $2,000?
Mine updated too but you might be reading yours wrong. I’ll let you know after you respond to my question.
Does anyone know how many they take? I think I saw on the UCLA thread that there were like 450 applications, but how many offers? And was it just to students who had SIRed? Or were some made to people who might not go to UCLA, i.e more offers after June 1?
@LuckyName let me clarify myself! Under the ucla alumni scholarship only 2000 is indicated. However, other grants given were increased since I noticed that the other 2550 disappeared from my loan as well! So in total they gave me and I hope most people at least that much (2000+2550)
@luckie1367 I’m sure some of the offers were made to students who have not SIRed. The email said this…
“If you attend UCLA this fall, you are guaranteed to receive our base scholarship award of $4,000 ($2,000 per year).”
Keyword: IF
If it had said “when,” then it could be assumed it only went out to those who SIRed. So I believe that’s why the email I received back from them said they’ll be choosing people all summer. The scholarships for those that did not SIR will go to others who did.
Whoo! There is hope! Thanks @LuckyName!
@npham95 I edited my post because I had read your post wrong. So you got $2,000 in the normal scholarship and then an additional $2,555 in your other grants?
@LuckyName I found this http://financialaid.ucla.edu/Portals/9/Documents/Fee_update_continuing_May2015.pdf on the FinAid website. Maybe your FAN updated with the actual tuition whereas others are still at the projected increase number?
@luckie1367 yeah, I thought it might have been something to do with the deal that went down with Gov. Brown. So that’s awesome, tuition did go down $555.00.
@LuckyName oh I just took a closer look and I’ll correct myself. No you were totally correct with the 550 reduction. I was too excited and ran before the headlight with my calculation.
I totally agree with you about additional award assessment at later time! I thought my other grants increased but I did notice the reduction in tuition which I did not suspect
Terribly sorry for my idiotic excitement and miscalculation.
You were definitely correct about it! Thanks for the information tho. If you can, you should repost your post cuz I think its very useful
In another word…only 2000 and 550 reduction to tuition have been provided
@Npham95 I deleted it already lol. No way of bringing it back. Maybe i’ll retype it after breakfast, lol
Lol @LuckyName terribly sorry about it! I have a tendency to run ahead of the headlight when thee is an excitement. I don’t often miscalculate that badly but your post gave me hope that we may get more lol
