Do you think people who applied to WOW but got rejected have a slightly better chance than those who didn’t? I’m EDing to Williams (very aware half of the ED pool are recruited athletes) and I really hope I get in.
Yeah, I can second @canunot! The admissions officers straight up told us that the acceptance rate for WoW kids is 90%
I don’t know man, sometime admissions stuff is weird. One girl I talked to at Williams went to the Amherst fly-in, but got rejected from Amherst and accepted at Williams. And you’re exaggerating that “half of the ED pool are recruited athletes.” Williams seems to have about 66 athletic tips that they employ – and I don’t think all of those athletic tips are used ED. (Though I might be wrong about that)
So, last year 244 people were admitted ED and let’s assume that there were 66 athletic recruits in that pool, so 66/244, roughly a quarter.
And let’s be like, really clear here: the figure that the nice admissions officers said to us at the thing was that somewhere between 85-90% of WOW attendees that apply to the college are admitted.
Pretty sure I know who a couple of you are, after reading your posts.
That sounds kind of creepy, actually. I promise I’m not a stalker.
Just curious: do you think you know who I am? I mean if you’ve met me it’s pretty easy to figure out from my CC history – there’s a few distinctive things – but I’d be curious none the less.
I’m 87.34% sure I’ve figured it out.
Oh well by all means – message me and take a guess if you want.
Not sure if anyone will see this, but if you were accepted to WOW (and the topic is the same as last year-- this year’s is “Describe your neighborhood and how it impacts who you are”)… How did you write your essay? Did you focus more on a description of your neighborhood and how it’s shaped you, or did you work in things about your academics and accomplishments? I hate how there’s nowhere for extracurriculars on the application!
(Hope it’s okay, but I’m just going to tag some people who got in, because I’m not sure if anyone will see this otherwise. @DressingIron @Princetonian2020 @BlackHuntress @ALibertarian @MegaGenius)
Thanks so much!

OMG is it harder to get in if you missed the priority deadline? I didn’t know there was one (found out about WOW after the June deadline)
@eyrar99 I wrote mine kind of as a story. So I said something along the lines of “If I listen closely, I can hear the faint sounds of my friend ____'s Bollywood music echoing in the night as her family holds a party to celebrate (insert aspect of her culture)”. Basically they want to see something different from the usual formal and fixed essays. And @GrandBudapest I’m pretty sure I missed the priority deadline and still got in.
@BlackHuntress is this rolling admissions?
@GrandBudapest Yes but the last deadline is pretty much it so I would totally recommend applying as soon as you can.
@BlackHuntress
I already did a while ago But thanks
