Also anyone here know how much they look at upward trend?? Like for my first semester my GPA was a 2.92, and this semester should be a 3.5-3.66
On the website it says that for transfer applicants they look for:
1.) Substantial coursework from a challenging academic institution or program
2.) Required and appropriate courses for specific areas of study
3.) Evidence of a positive academic trend
So I bet that they will take that into account.
@aatwe28 I am applying from a community college in Maryland but I would imagine most of the applicants here are coming from Texas.
Can someone chance me???
GPA - 3.79
First Choice: Radio Tv Film
Second Choice: Journalism
- 44 credit hrs
- 0 LOR (Mostly because I have no professors in my field at the CC I’m at. I started as a business student so I only really got to know business professors.)
- 30+ volunteer hours
- phi theta kappa
- creative directed local artists music videos
- no official “jobs,” but I did make and sell clothes when I was in high school, and I also do photography to make money.
- distinguished honors/honors list for 3 semesters
- essays were pretty good. I poured my heart out but I’m not sure I gave them what they wanted to hear about why I chose my major…I have a lot of career goals and expressed them, I’m just not sure I gave them the “right answer”…
I know I have an okay chance, but I’m literally terrified… UT is the only place I want to be. Also, do any of you guys know what the process for switching a major would be like after the acceptance? I actually want to double major in RTF and Journalism, but I’m not sure I would want just Journalism if that’s what I got accepted to. I might want to switch to PR. Since that’s in the same school, would I still have to internally transfer?
This discussion has relieved a lot of my anxiety over the last couple weeks so thanks guys!!! Best of luck to all of you!!!
I think your chances are good. I’m not sure exactly how competitive of a major RTF is but I think I remember a few people saying a while back that it’s not the easiest major to get into in all honesty. I remember hearing that there is a bit of competition. again tho, with your GPA I’m sure you’ll be fine.
Could be wrong. Someone check me on my info.
Does anyone know about statistics for out of state transfers?
@mmm303 @wickedwarrior777 it’s not too competitive. There were ~3.6’s that got in last year:

Although regarding your LOR’s, you should have gone to your professors anyway; regardless if they’re within your major they’re a professional reference. Other than that, you have a good shot

Hey, anyone here applying for Electrical Engineering at Cockrekll here?
I haven’t seen anyone applying for EE on this thread yet.
@aatwe28 I am!!

@meiliu my application has been in review for about 3.5 weeks, IT SUCKS
Alright, so I am looking for a chance me. I very recently found out that Dual Credit is factored into my admission decision, and it has utterly destroyed my admission chances. I am extremely upset about this, because I was misinformed by admissions, and had my entire Freshman year planned on this misinformation. So is the way of the world I suppose. Anyways, my cumulative GPA will be around a 3.71 with an A, B, B, C in my Dual Credit classes. This is the only downside however, as the rest of my application is extremely strong, so I am somewhat optimistic. I understand my situation is extremely hard to gauge, however I would like some chance me’s anyways.
Currently a University of Texas at Tyler freshman planning to transfer into McComb’s school of business at UT Austin next fall. I will have all my Prerequisites finished by the end of this semester. I am still finishing Calculus 2 currently, but I have a 97 in there right now and without a doubt will finish with an A+.
UT Tyler GPA: 4.0
Hours (by end of 2017 Spring semester): 45
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Resume: President of the Financial Management Association. Single handedly grew the organization to nearly 5 times its original size.
EC: 12 hours a semester of volunteering at a food bank.
Essays: I consider myself a fantastic writer, so a 9/10 is safe to assume. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to write about my Dual Credit grades specifically because I recently found out that they were factored in.
I have four letters of recommendation from ALL of my professors last semester, excluding the online one. Two of them are excellent and in detail. I care a lot about Finance and have the highest GPA possible, represented well in my essays. If I get denied, I plan to appeal with two new letters of recommendation for a total of 6, and write an excellent appeal essay. I plan to write letters to admission (I understand they aren’t supposed to consider this in applications, but it’s worth a shot). The admissions office knows very well who I am, as I have contacted them many times and continue to do so until I am officially denied. Thanks in advance.
@utcswannabe really? i was just hoping there’ll be news in 2 weeks

-Have already been accepted into Mays Business School(Texas A&M) as well as UNT’s Business School
Thank you all for your help, and if anyone needs a chance me, I’ll be glad to help.
@Meiliu My application has also been in review for almost a month. Based on historical applications it seems we’ll only start seeing decisions around the latter half of April.
@UTMccombs2017 Your GPA is low for Mccombs but you have a positive trend so maybe that will help. Plus the rest of your resume looks fantastic. Do you have a second choice school? If you don’t make Mccombs maybe you can try for an internal transfer down the road.
@aaparekh321 Looks like you have a really good chance to me.
@Meiliu Some people heard back as early as the 7th last year, but just a few. Around the 17th there stated to be a lot more. I’m checking my status every hour already.
