2016/2017 UT Austin Transfer Thread

@wickedwarrior777 but don’t they start releasing decisions May 1? This is all so confusing.

I’m just basing my answer off of what others are saying.

I applied to ten schools and all of them were either RTF or business. I didn’t submit a portfolio though. I didn’t see a place to do that with UT. I hope I didn’t miss that!

@collegekid0013 I’m in the same boat. Only applied to UT RTF and already signed a lease on an apartment. It’s so much more stressful when all your eggs are in one basket

@mmm303 wow you really went all in! Really hope you get accepted then!

I applied UT Austin for fall 2017, and I am currently studying at the best university in Turkey (Middle East Technical). I really don’t get this GPA debate you guys have. I mean, if 3.5 is considered as average, it is really hard to be competitive for me due to challenging coursework we have. Here, people who get GPA around 2.5 considered as average. We also don’t have weighted GPA. Lots of questions I want to ask. I will be grateful, if someone can help me through pm. (I am a U.S. citizen btw) :frowning:

what do you mean by this?

@Amonistlin I’m in the same position that you are in, at my school it is really really difficult to make a 3.5, much less a 4.0. I’m hoping that the admissions department will take into account that attending schools that provide more rigor than community colleges (not hating on community colleges at all- there just is a difference in how difficult it is to make a high GPA) is a large part of what factors into GPA. They say that their review is holistic, so if it really is, I think that they would definitely take this into account! A lot of people commenting on this thread put such weight into the GPA factor because a lot of them are coming from Texas community colleges and UT system schools.

Not sure 100%, but I’m pretty sure they don’t really care what school it is. I think for them a 4.0 from a community college is just as good as a 4.0 from a four-year major university. Any clarification would help

@wickedwarrior777 I’m not saying that going to a four-year major university over a community college would seriously up your chances or that going to a community college would hurt them, but I do think that they would at least take that into account when looking at the applications! Also on one of the transfer pages on UT’s website, it says that they look for coursework from a “challenging academic institution”. Not quite sure what this means, but I think that if they say that as well as that the process is holistic, they wouldn’t ignore that factor, but I’m not 100% sure either. Guess we’ll find out in a couple weeks- ah

@aatwe28 just saying, my community college is hard to get a 4.0. You can have all A’s and a 4.0 then make a 88 but it is equal to someone who gets an 80 and drops your GPA to 3.6 so it is still hard. and it does not matter a college or university. It depends on the persons grades and the stuff they look at specifically. They aren’t going to look at a 4.0 at a community college and a 3.0 at a university and say “oh nope we cannot take this 4.0 person is at a community college” they will accept who they want at their school and programs.

@p0726n not trying to cause any problems or hate on community colleges, was just expressing my opinion of what I think may go on during the admissions process. I know it’s hard to get a 4.0 anywhere and I wasn’t saying that a 4.0 from a community college is any less valuable! All I was trying to say was that admissions might take everything into account.

Hey @aatwe28, I know how the schools are in the middle east. It is more rigor course work, because of the way schools work there.
But if you don’t mind me asking, what’s your average out of 100? And what program are you applying to?

Should I hold out in hope of on campus living or should I look for an apartment? Where is the best place to get apartments at reasonable prices around campus?

@nerdygirl2100 I hear west campus is pretty good, whatever that is lol

@nerdygirl2100
I kind of counted my chance out of living on or near campus, and I’ve been looking at Zillow recently. If you look 5 or so miles out, things get a lot better value for your dollar. I’m still looking for an apartment, but I want to get a response from the school before I jump on an apartment. I have noticed a lot of places that have shorten lease periods which means that you can take a shortened contract before finding a roommate at the school if you don’t already have one.

I’m stressed because I don’t want to find an apartment and sign before getting accepted. Austin is large, there will be someplace to live still after I get accepted, I hope.

@nerdygirl2100 trust me there are people looking for roommates with apartments set, I have gotten literally 10 messages on reddit alone asking me if I am interested in rooming. If you go on UT Austin apartment facebook page you can literally find so many available apartments for subletting for 700 to 800 (or even under) there.

I don’t have a roommate either! Roommates still seem to be abundant so that’s good

All the stuff on the UT subletting facebook page right now are for summer so I’m sure there’ll be plenty of stuff for fall by the time decisions are released.
