2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 2)

DS2’s wedding is still on for April 17. He and FDIL got engaged in January 2020, so basically their entire engagement has been dominated by covid. They optimistically sent out STD’s to 170 people last spring. Final invite list was just 70. In the past couple of weeks the rules at the church and the country club have been constantly changing. You just have to make your best guess, and go with it.

They are doing RSVPs on their wedding website, which makes things easier for people. Coordinating everything has been especially awkward, since the wedding is in our town, which FDIL knows well and loves, but her parents had never seen until December, thanks to NYS’s covid restrictions on out-of-state visitors. (Until then, visitors had to quarantine for 14 days before venturing out of their hotel rooms; in December that changed to 3 days, which made their trip feasible.) The best news is that as of April 1, the NYS quarantine requirements are being dropped entirely!

The next big issue is whether everyone will be able to be vaccinated in time. For over 60s, it shouldn’t be a problem. And some of the wedding party have already got their jabs. But Bride and Groom aren’t eligible yet and we have just 5 weeks.

And here are some more options for @scmom12 :

I love the dresses! Lots of options. Order a few and try them on. It will give you a sense of what works.

Another question…anyone have any opinions on a July 3 wedding in New Hampshire with about 125 people…rescheduled to this year from last. We haven’t heard a peep from the wedding couple…but wonder…is this a probability in NH. Guests will be traveling from all over the country…and some internationally. Even the wedding couple doesn’t live in NH. Can this happen?

Editing to add…just heard from the parents of the groom…wedding has been postponed to 2022 if it happens at all. They actually had their wedding ceremony in 2019…so who knows if this will even happen…

I’m starting to follow this thread as I will likely be a June 2022 MOB. I hope this fall I can go to stores to select a dress.

DD and FSIL are expecting things to all be back to normal next summer for a large indoor reception with a buffet, I’m more in the wait and see camp. They are touring venues now.

Did you mean June 2022?

This is the dress I wore for my S’s wedding - I no longer see it on the Adrianna Papell website, which is where I purchased mine over a year ago. It came in petite sizes and it fit perfectly; no alterations were needed. I am short and curvy and I received a lot of compliments. But it’s sparkly and at Macy’s is only available in a size 0 Petite. But it might be available elsewhere.

yes I meant 2022 and I’m glad I still had time to edit!

There are several dresses available in petite sizes at Dillards:

@college_query Yeah, I had posted a link to that Jessica Howard Petite Elbow Sleeve Asymmetrical Neck Side Tuck Gown at Dillards too!

I have something like this in blacks that I’ve worn to several formal weddings. I love that under dress is more a shift. I just need something long. And a little nicer to fit in with other wedding party dresses although a perfect guest dress.

Looks like time to order some things to try. Experience has made me leery of dresses fitted through waist and rib cage. For that I need at least one size larger than needed for bust/shoulders which is hard to alter. A shift style works best but not as common in long dresses.

@scmom12

You mention now that you prefer more of a shift style dress. You have several parameters here (which is surely your prerogative!), but here is a shift style dress in petite, but it is lace and earlier you were against lace:

This dress has some lace on top but doesn’t have a defined waist:

This dress doesn’t seem to have a defined waist and comes in two colors:

This dress hides the waist:

What about this A-line dress:

This dress has no waistline and only a small amount of beading:

How about this 2-Piece Jacket Dress in Petite (you showed a short jacket dress that appeals to you in your post):

I know you were against beading, but the short dress you posted had some beading. And so what about this dress that doesn’t have a defined waist the the beading is not overkill?:

No defined waist, A-line, but there is some beading on the bodice:

No defined waist, major sale:

My MOG dress was very similar in style to the Alex Evenings mock 2-piece A-line dress from Nordstroms linked above near the top of the post, but mine was sleeveless. I am short-waisted and pear-shaped, but I carry extra weight in my mid-section as well. The style was so flattering - it was slimming without feeling like I was trying to cover up my pooch with a jacket. And the overlay top elongated my torso a bit. I felt great in it and got many compliments!

@soozievt You are great at dress finding!

Not sure if I should start a new thread, but I think I have the right audience here.
When D1 had her wedding (before Covid, maybe we should start referring to it as BC), she did not invite (allow) children to her wedding, but she did let a friend bring her baby to the wedding because she was still breast feeding.
My sister’s daughter is having her wedding this May. D1’s baby will be 4 months old and due to Covid D1 wouldn’t feel comfortable to have a babysitter watch the baby. D1 and her H are trying to get vaccinated before the wedding and are doing everything they could to come to the wedding. We are a very close knit family and we always attend all kids’ major events. My niece is saying no to D1 because she said her finance’s cousins also have little kids and they are not invited.
I don’t want to push to add more stress to my niece, but D1’s absence would be noticeable.
D1’s in-laws has offered to come with them to the destination to watch the baby (2 additional airfare, hotel rooms), or D1 and H could take turns to go to the reception.
I am considering talking to my sister or tell D1 not to come.

I am so sorry. I have been to a number of weddings where kids weren’t invited, but small babies came. We had a little one at our wedding, too. I feel like there is a difference between a babe in arms & a toddler or older child. If the bride said no, I guess I would tell your sister that your D won’t be able to attend, as well as why. She can choose to intervene with her D or not. You will have alerted her to the situation, though, and I guess you will just have to accept whatever happens. Having the in laws come seems like a lot of expense. If I were your D, I would just say no to that.

The plan for D1’s wedding was for S2 and his wife to bring DILs parents to watch my granddaughter during their wedding. That way they could have fun at the wedding and we could see our granddaughter the rest of the weekend. It involved Extra hotel rooms but not airfare. D1’s wedding (3/28/20) ended up being in our backyard and my granddaughter was was of only 10 people at the wedding, but that is another story.

@oldfort…What about if your D attends cousin’s wedding and her husband stays back with the baby. It is your D’s cousin after all and her husband isn’t as closely related. That way she doesn’t miss the wedding, and baby can be home with Dad (or even in hotel room if he goes on the trip itself).

It feels like your niece’s call, and if your sister is bent out of shape about it then she can take it up with her dd. I like the idea of letting your dd’s dh stay home with the baby. Your dd might like a girl’s weekend.

Why would they object to the baby being in the hotel room with the inlaws? Are they afraid too many people would be in-and-out of the dinners or events (including you) to focus on the baby? I guess I’m not sure why they would even know that the baby was in the hotel room.

My niece has an issue with the baby being at the wedding. Having the inlaws there would be another option and it would be a time consuming and costly option. D1 wants to rent a house rather than staying at the hotel because it would be safer for the baby. My side of family would like to see the baby because no one has seen. I am going to talk to my sister to see what she wants to do.
