You are so lucky to have no letter so far! @sirbedevere You’re in Fl, correct, like me? I’m starting to think, since no one else with iffy grades has gotten on yet, I’m the only one rejected. Hope no one else on this board gets a letter!
What’s the latest anyone has heard that a semifinalist historically received a rejection letter? Looks like the first letters were received on Tuesday and today is third day. From what I can see, those who received the letter AND posted last year were all in first three days. Anyone know historically?
@RedbirdDad last year (class of 2015) people posted around Jan. 20. Seems NM mailed out letters last Wednesday, but that just might be one wave of letters. I got my letter on Tuesday (the 19th); I’ve read the earliest threads from the class of '09 on and no one has ever gotten on past around Jan 25–in fact, they used to come earlier in January before last year.
Sitting over here waiting… I think I have a likely shot at moving on, no borderline grades, but reading this makes me nervous for you all. Good luck everyone!
@lcgusa Yep, central Florida. I’ll be sure to post it if I’m next on the chopping block. Sorry again about that letter, sounds like it was some crap.
Yeah, it was pretty harshly worded too; basically “congrats on your 2014 PSAT scores…” and then BAM, “Your application is being withdrawn…”
I don’t understand why you haven’t got your letter yet (if you do get one) if we’re both in the same state. Lets hope you made NMF!
Anyone checking here with C’s received mail today and not got a letter yet?
@RedbirdDad no letter in RI (one C along with disciplinary action)
XCjunior…may you/we never hear a thing until the guidance counselor calls you to the office to give you certificate. If not received by tomorrow, should be lots less stress.
Well, the letters were ostensibly mailed sometime last week, so you should be in the clear by now, but it’s not definite until you get your finalist certificate
@XCjunior2016 my letter was sent last Wednesday and I live in FL, so I dont see why they wouldn’t have reached RI by now. I would think you might be ok.
No letter in St Louis. Breathing easier. No proof but, I’m hoping if we all can make it to Monday, good things are coming. That would be so fabulous. Son missed 16 days last year while carrying 6 AP classes. Got two C’s in last semester AP classes. That looked like a potential deal killer. Had counselor write letter in school part and had a teacher make mention in recommendation. Perhaps they do read that stuff. Who knows? Wasn’t sick a day this school year and has all A’s in all classes, but they don’t look at Senior year at all I found out.
Would love to have the Baylor, Alabama, Oklahoma, Arizona and Arizona State options and half tuition at USC would make it more compelling if he got in there. Crossing fingers for all of us.
No letter today… 2 C’s, 3.2 UW and a total of one extracurricular :-?
I talked with my counselor and she wrote me a good recommendation, I had one final grade of C, a 3.8 UW GPA, and still got a rejection letter. I don’t wish one upon any of you.
And, @sirbedevere, is your mail service unreliable? Surely if I’m in FL and got my rejection letter the 19th you would have gotten yours too this week. You might just make it!
No letter in California today, son had one C his 9th grade year as the second semester grade in advanced Physics. His report cards show grades for both semesters so that helps. Otherwise, I don’t think there is anything that would earn him a rejection. And he goes to a private school that is really big on this stuff and the counselors take it very seriously so I’m guessing they know what to write when there are potential issues. Still, I’ll breather easier on Monday!
No letter in our part of California either today. I hope Son is in the clear. One C in French freshman year, bunch of Bs too. 234 PSAT, 3.68 UW, 2200 SAT.
California has probably the most NMSFs of every state, so I would think, like Fl, some would need to be cut, but maybe it varies from state to state and NM was being especially harsh on Floridians. Good luck to you all! @sd2016 @pickpocket
@lcgusa Is it possible that your “C” on your transcript was not the issue, but more likely the issue was what you mentioned (on a different thread) related to withdrawing from a class? If so, the fact that you retook the class and did great should help your case if your GC can speak to that in the appeal. It is starting to seem like folks with 1 or 2 "C"s (and nothing else) might be safe…so maybe with you it was more complicated.
Did your letter make mention of the reason you were being rejected?
@4kids2graduate it mentioned something along the lines of my academic performance not meeting their very high standards in grades 9-12. But the funny thing is, the only grades included are from 9-11th grades.
And I definitely think the withdrawal from that math class had something to do with my rejection. They probably were thinking I was failing the class with that ‘withdrawal-fail’ on the transcript, which would also explain why I went and took an algebra 2 class over the summer–because normally, those summer classes are for those who have failed classes.
Sorry to hear that you’re not moving on @Icgusa. Where in FL are you? I made semifinalist, and have one semester C in a dual enrollment class, but a B as the final grade. I’ve been on pins and needles checking my mailbox every day, and as of now, no letter.
