If we know when the last years banquet was held we can determine how many weeks before the banquet scholars were notified. I know people were notified on April 9th last year.
Oops (yet again). Last year they were notified as early as March 23. For the past 2 years the trend seems to be the 3rd week of March. Good luck! @camelsrock
How and when will I receive notification?
Notifications are sent to recipients and applicants not selected to receive an award via email the week of March 20,
2017.
According to the 2017-18 Elks MVS National Semi-Finalist FAQs.pdf
A person received an email that congratulated her on making it to the top 20. Did anyone receive the same email or a reject email?
@williams2021 have not received anything yet
I received one!
@pandasarecute1287 are you a finalist?
@pandasarecute1287 If you don’t mind me asking, what time was your email sent?
@williams2021 did you get anything?
I got an email saying I’m a finalist! Came in at 5:32 p.m., EST.
Congrats finalists!
I’m a finalist from Arizona. My email came in at 5:30 Eastern.
“Congratulations! Your outstanding academics and leadership have set you apart from the more than 30,000 other MVS applicants. You’ve been selected as one of the top 20 Most Valuable Student Scholarship finalists to attend the Leadership Weekend in Chicago from April 6-9, 2017. My name is Maryann Slater, and I will be working with you to prepare you for the Leadership Weekend.”
IIRC rejection emails are sent out a bit later. Sometimes the weekends needs to draw from a waitlist.
Hello! I’m a Finalist from Florida! I’m very excited to be going to Chicago and so grateful.
So if I haven’t received anything yet, should I assume I’m not a finalist?
@camelsrock yes, but if one of the finalists can’t go it’s possible that they may make another person a finalist. You can safely assume you’re not, as I’m doing for myself, but don’t completely write it off until you get that in writing
@thebeccster1 I’ll see you in Chicago. We should make a FB group or something.
One bit of advice: I know there’s a lot of money at stake, and a big difference between being 14th and being 1st in terms for the prize $, but try not to see the other students as competitors when you’re there that weekend. The Coke scholarship used to do what Elks does, and interview students to determine who gets the bigger money at Scholars weekend, and they found that students got so insanely cutthroat about it all that people weren’t really getting anything out of the weekend as people.
So… try not to do that.
I have a question. My daughter was a national semi finalist from Florida but we have not received an email so I am assuming she is not a finalist. My questions is at what point do you get notification how much scholarship money will be offered to you as a national semi-finalist? We also never have received anything from the state Elks or local. Thanks!
