**2017 NHRP Scholars** — Scholarships

Looks like UKY just updated their website and instead of check back mid September-“Please check back late September.” Oh, dear… 8-|

I went on the UKY website today as well and saw the update “late September” can only hope that doesn’t mean bad news - keeping my fingers crossed

If you have not heard, UK has updated their scholarship site for incoming class of 2018. The Patterson is still being offered as an automatic scholarship. The room & board stipend has been reduced. Still a four year full tuition award, and very generous. Go Cats!

This is great as it was rumored they were getting away from offering Merit $.
So any Patterson recipients would like to chime in and tell us if the cut is that housing $ now is only offered year 1 & 2? Am I reading this correctly?
Patterson Selective

National Merit® Finalist* or National Hispanic Recognition Scholar.
*National Merit® Finalists must list UK as first choice with National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Full Out-of-State Tuition + $10,000 Housing Stipend (first & second years only and living on-campus)

@Meddy

Yes, the stipend is now a specified dollar amount and it must be on campus.

For our student’s class (entering 2016), the room and board stipend was the equivalent of a basic meal plan plus a basic double occupancy dorm room, for four years, and good for on or off campus living.

I had anticipated UK would do away with the room and board stipend altogether, and make the Patterson a full tuition award only, which would still be a great deal.

Re: UNL We had reservations about Nebraska due to the GPA requirement. I seem to recall reading how GPA was calculated, and having some misgivings. In the end, UK won out anyways, but I thought I’d mention it, to remind parents and students to read the fine print for all schools.

Received information from Texas A&M today offering $14,000 scholarship if admitted to the University for NHRP. This is the total amount over 4 years.

@BriTexan Thank you so much! Do you know if we have to apply Early Action to Northeastern to qualify for the scholarship?

When our kid applied for incoming class of 2016, Northeastern was up to $30K. She was awarded $17K.

She also was awarded full tuition at Fordham. We ran the numbers carefully, and that NYC room & board, plus fees, plus airplane tickets, pushed the four year cost too high for us.

@dietcig That is a question I do not know! I recommend early action, but I do not believe it is necessary (I would call.)
The only requirements for the actual scholarship (listed on the website) is to upload documentation by April 3rd.

@Midwest67 Thank you for letting me know! When I called to question the “up to”, the admissions/scholarship department told me it was " guaranteed", but even if it was it would be too expensive for me. I also agree that Fordham is way too expensive even after tuition as well. I will probably end up going to Arizona State or perhaps Kentucky. Where did your daughter end up attending?

@BriTexan

University of Kentucky! Go Cats!

Hi y’all, I’m a senior from Texas who recently has discovered the wonderful benefits that comes with NHRP. I have information for a bunch of scholarships for National Hispanic Scholars recognized by Collegeboard (automatic and competitive) if anyone is interested.

My son was just awarded the Chancellor’s Scholarship at University of Nebraska-Lincoln today . Full tuition and $2000 stipend per year.
If I can only get him to submit his common app to the rest of the schools he is applying to .

Last week he was awarded the ASU National Scholar award- Non-resident tuition for 8 semesters, covers tuition even if it increases. In addition $1,500 in research support from the Barrett Honors College and $1,000 toward Barrett travel program .

So far so good !

University of South Carolina mailer received today says: An award package worth at least $101k is waiting for you, if…

  1. You’re a National Hispanic Scholar
  2. You apply for admission to USC by Dec. 1 2017 and are admitted
  3. You notify them you are a scholar by July 1 2018
  4. You enroll at USC-Columbia

Full Tuition at Mississippi State - which is an excellent school.

Just received news from UA -University of Arizona
Arizona Excellence Award - $35,000
National Hispanic Scholar Award - $5,000
Study Abroad $1500
Guaranteed admission to Honors College

Looks like this will cover more than OOS tuition , will have to go and visit soon.
