2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

@aznboi4981 That was very uncalled for; beauty is subjective.

:-@

Whenever anyone accepts USC admissions offer, can you please update on the housing situation? I heard transfers have it rough on housing so it would be awesome to hear how other transfers are doing with housing.

@anna717 Yes she is out of town but she did email me back and my other counselor did say he has talked about me to her. Also, other saddleback people have gotten SGR’s so she’s definitely read some apps.

@firelordozaii yes it seems price is a lot less competitive than Marshall so I am very hopeful. Do you know any previous transfers that got into price?

@jobsoutofcollege ya she definitely has read apps, which is why I was expecting a decision by the end of this week. I totally thought it all out, like if she sent out SGR’s I should hear soon, but I didn’t hear anything. Which then scares me because next week a wave is supposed to happen for Marshall. But since she is out of town, I doubt I will hear

.

I don’t know where people are hearing that there are waves of admission decisions going out. I guess you could infer that from looking at last years thread, but the two people I have talked to in admissions said that all decisions (besides TPP and SGRs) will be released all at once on June 1st. I asked them why and I was told that they needed to see how many incoming freshmen accept their offers before they offer admission to transfers. I’m just speculating but I think that offers will likely come out in mid to late May (except for SGRs). So good luck to everyone, but I don’t think most people will get decisions for another month (even though it would be nice because I don’t want to lose my deposit for another school).

@berther I disagree because the admissions process is a long grueling process… they’ve already made decisions on a number of applications I am sure. They just need to send them out. It’s not like they’re going to go back to those applications and start moving their applications over to the reject pile on June 2nd after freshmen are done committing.

@berther Did they specifically say that this doesn’t apply to TTPs?

@aznboi4981 I think that’s exactly what they could do… freshman have to reply by May 1st, so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that they have a list of “admit” that lengthens or shortens depending on freshmen yield.

@aznboi4981 I’m speculating again, but they probably have rated applications and have a good idea of who is getting in, but I think if they probably want to see how many freshmen commit, and review all the applications more than once before they finalize decisions. I spoke 2 people and one admissions person wasn’t the most talkative, but the other told me that I should hear close to June 1st

@csumit @berther I feel like that’s way too much work with the large number of applicants they have to work with… maybe they reduce the number of acceptances to students they sent SGRs to?

@csumit I didn’t really ask about TPP, because I’m don’t have a TPP, but I know some other TPPs have gotten decisions already

I think they’re just saying that. If you watch some of the transfer webinars on youtube, any time somebody asks them when decisions are coming, they always say May 30. It’s to give them enough time to look through all of the apps and curb all of the questions that’ll come at them. If you look at transfer admission stats from past years (http://www.smc.edu/StudentServices/TransferServices/Pages/Transfer-Statistics.aspx), they always accept 2400-2500 transfers every year. They already know how many transfers they want to take and they pretty much know how many freshmen will commit since yield rates are more or less the same every year. I think some will get their decisions by the end of the month, while most will in May. Who knows though, this whole thing is a mystery.

**Edit: I just checked the stats for 2017-2018 and they accepted 2150 which is a decent amount less, so yeah maybe they’re starting to take less? Who knows.

@aznboi4981 they have what… like 20 admissions officers? Doesn’t seem unreasonable to eliminate say, half, of the ~9000 applicants before May 1st and then review the other half over the next few weeks.

@berther thanks! It’s ttp btw :stuck_out_tongue:

@aznboi4981 that’s possible, but I know that SGR’s usually are asked for to see if an applicant has finished a required Math or Writing course with a satisfactory grade. So, I don’t see why they would cut down on the number of SGR students admitted, because most of them are just as competitive as non SGR students

Meh, I just think they say these things to cover themselves like the ACT/SAT used to do with test scores. They’d say 3 weeks you should get your scores, but in reality, it was usually 12 days. It’s just to avoid any troubles imo (i.e. application refunds since the student did not get a decision in the timeframe they were told).

Oh yeah, TTP lol, but I don’t know honestly I’m just sharing what I was told, even if it is just what they tell the people answering the phones to say

@NotLonelyIsland that’s weird that they accepted a lot less than previously. Thanks for the sheet on transfer stats, I found it a few months back and it’s really helpful.

@aznboi4981 Seems about right
