2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

@TheLastofUs9 I think it depends on what courses would transfer from your home institution. Nothing necessarily changes for sophomores, I’m pretty sure you’d just take the other required courses at USC. So if you’re taking General Chemistry, Calc I, and Cell Biology at your home institution, those will most likely transfer over. But you don’t know for certain yet because the registrar’s office doesn’t review your courses until after you’re admitted, unfortunately. As long as you’re taking the right courses to fulfill the GEs and show progress towards your major, you have nothing to worry about

Random thought as I sit in my Managerial Accounting class… When I submit the FAFSA and CSS, do I put my current school and USC down?

And then if I am accepted, do I just remove my current school from the filings?

Yes, you just add USC to both. When freshman are applying they will have 10 schools on there! I don’t know that you actually have to remove the other I think it may fall off once you enroll at USC.

@cadreamin Okay, thanks. I was just curious because during my freshman year, in the midst of the semester, my school’s FA department called my house asking if I go to UMiami or their institution, and they started telling me you cannot get FA from two different schools, nor attend two different schools on a full-time basis. And I was like duh…? I don’t know what happened there, but I just told them I was a student at their school, and it was fine. Still confused the living daylights out of me… like yes, I fly back from Miami to NJ every single day. :))

My advisor is the worst at getting back to me.

I emailed her three weeks ago, and she finally responded to my follow-up email after two weeks. Now, I’m waiting a week and a half for her to reply to my other email. UGH.

Why not just call?

I shouldn’t have to call to get a response to a question that requires performing research.

@aznboi4981 It’s USC. They receive an insane amount of applications. I agree with you, and I wish they’d hire more people. It takes like an hour to get anyone on the phone. Nevertheless, we can’t change it and calling is still better than waiting for two weeks (especially now that the deadline has passed).

@larue0712 hey, i was looking through this thread when i happened to come across your comment. I also applied to price. One thing you should know is price, if im not wrong at least, dosen’t get as many undergraduate apps as most other colleges ( within USC). But that could be good or bad, as many ppl said before, its a private school so “impact” isn’t as pertinent. However, I would encourage you to not worry about it, im sure by now you’ve submitted your app.

@redngoldhopeful so when I went to the USC transfer day thing, they legit said they don’t care about EC’s. They even compared starting your own buisness to raising 2 kids, and how it wasn’t fair. Don’t worry about EC’s, the main thing they consider ( according to them at least) is your GPA and essays.

@clairen they want you to take it before you attend the school. So if you haven’t taken it by the time you apply, or are not taking it, then they conditionally admit you until you take the class.

Hi,

I am a junior applicant. Do you guys think my 3.25 GPA from Boston University is too low for consideration?

@Alpinyo The average gpa is 3.7, however there have been many people that have been accepted with a lower gpa so it is possible!

@Alpinyo I don’t think it would hurt to submit a letter explaining why, they might be more understanding if there were extenuating circumstances. You can upload one on your YouSC portal under Document Library if you haven’t already explained it on your CommonApp

Honestly I am just as worried as you might be I have a 3.2 gpa and I got to a CC in CA but I’m hoping that in my essays they see the stuff I’ve been through and see that I’ve been improving since I previously attended a private college I had a 2.0 I also had a concussion my first semester that year so it explains a lot! But don’t lose hope! I know I haven’t yet

@Alpinyo

Has USC notified anyone about their decisions yet?

Also, how many transfer students do they usually accept? Will having a 3.83 GPA at a private institution give me a good chance of getting in? I know that they don’t focus on extra-curriculars much, and more on just the GPA

@Elena1355 Nah they usually start notifying people mid-April until the end of May. That’s a pretty competitive GPA, but your chances also depend on if you’ve completed pre-reqs and how many GEs you’ve done. Last year they received 8800 apps and admitted 2150. The average GPA was 3.7.
