2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

This may seem like a pointless question, but I have a 3.49 GPA and am curious if the admissions people will see that as basically a 3.5 or more as a 3.4? I did really well fall semester to raise my GPA, so the 3.49 looks like an improvement in context.

I got a spring grade request! How do you think I am looking guys?!

@zettasyntax Wait, or admissions counselor is the one deciding?

where did you find that request?

Do they even consider the improvement? I have 3.4 gpa in freshman, but 4.0 in the three consecutive semesters. would this affect?

Got an email and it was in my portal @CantGoBackToJail

@dsprawgs ahhh a good ole SGR. I feel bad for u. I got one last year when I applied as a sophomore. Prepare yourself for endless waiting because it will be torture. Lol. You will have it worse than everyone because you won’t get your decision until late June possibly even July, depending on when your spring transcript is ready. How many units did You complete when you applied?

Is it a bad thing that I haven’t heard or seen anything yet?

@aznboi4981 I would guess that it’s not entirely up to them, but they certainly have a crucial role in deciding from what I’ve experienced. More evidence for this came from my SGR the year prior. I called to ask the admissions office about my SGR, but the girl that I spoke with was quite confused about how specific my SGR was and she suggested that I call my admission counselor as he was the one that requested the SGR. When I talked to him, he basically said that he wanted to see my grade in math.

@markspencer22 They definitely take into account upward trends  It helps a lot too if it’s a consistent trend. Like you did bad your first semester, but really improved the next two semesters, it looks great to admissions - as if the first semester was a fluke and you had trouble adjusting.

@goodBrujo9 tell me everything that I need to know about it! Haha and as long as it all ends in an SC acceptance, I don’t mind the wait at all. As far as my units, after this Spring semester, I will have completed just over 80 units.

@zettasyntax Crap, now I need to make a final impression somehow!

@dsprawgs it’s pretty routine. You just upload the transcipt to the portal. My counselor asked me to email her mine directly. I’m surprised you recieved one. I got mine with 33 units done at the time I applied. But yoU have way more. Are you missing a math or English that you’re completing for spring?
This just made me nervous. If I get another SGR with 72 units done at time of application and all prereqs complete I may have to bow out from USC. Most UCs expect a commitment by 6/1 and I’m not putting myself through that again this year. USC is my number one but they be playing with people emotions with these delays. Lol

Do they ask for spring grade report for only certain students? I haven’t seen anything on my portal?

@prostrans55 Hey Congratulations! Has your portal been updated yet? If not, can you tell me when it does? I don’t have access to my mailbox right now and am more relying on the portal to be informed. Thank you.

@prostrans55 YAY CONGRATS!! omg this is so exciting

So I called my admissions counselor because I was worried after receiving a request for spring grades. She said that they just need to see my final grade for Calculus (a requirement for Marshall) before giving me a decision. So if you’re in the same boat don’t worry! She also said that they have not sent out any admissions decisions for transfers yet so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@mybaifos wait but @prostrans55 already got an acceptance. Could she have not known?

@mybaifos you’re lucky enough to have a considerate counselor that told you specifically what they are looking for, others, such as my previous counselor were horrible! that SGR is cool, but you’re going to wait for a minute. when I applied last year, people were getting their decisions in July and it sucked.

@mybaifos I must have received one for the same reason. (Currently in Calc 1)

Does anybody know, based upon previous experience/forums, whether Spring grades tend to be a more positive sign than a negative?

@Vesper7 Yeah, she’s great!! I receive my final grades for spring in the middle of May, so hopefully that’s soon enough to get a decision by June 1st
