2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

What should I email my admission’s counselor about to make a final impression/remind her who I am? Sos. :-??

@aznboi4981 does contacting your admission’s counselor actually help? do they decide if someone is accepted or not?

@ernesto98 i saw someone post in last years stats and decisions that they got in with a 3.31

apparently, hes one of the few people looking at your application, and every university records the emails and text sent to them and sometimes adds it to your “file”

3.7 Average College GPA for transfer class fall 2017

@aznboi4981 https://admissionblog.usc.edu/mythbuster-i-need-to-show-the-admission-counselors-that-usc-is-my-top-choice/ Just make sure it’s a good question. Idk asking something that can be found online might go against you instead of helping. Kinda hard to find a legitimate question at this point since we’ve already submitted everything, but you know that already haha

^^^ True dat.

Hey guys. I just got my acceptance package today!

Here is some info in case you want to know:

I had TTP status and have completed 12 units at SMC. I got a 4.0 GPA first semester, and should be done with 5 of my GEs by the end of the year (total 26 units).

My first choice major is Interactive Entertainment in the School of Cinematic Arts, but a letter in my package said that the SCA has not finished their “selective admission process” yet.

The letter said that I have been admitted as undecided for now (I put this for my second choice in the Common App), and that I will receive another letter in the future regarding my placement in the SCA.

It’s definitely interesting for other potential SCA transfers to know that the SCA is still working on decisions, and that you can still get accepted into the school while you wait for their decision.

If you you applied for the SCA, you may have to wait a little longer.

Good luck everyone.

@ernesto98 Somebody from the 2014 stats thread got in with a 2.9 - if that doesn’t say holistic, I don’t know what does

Has anyone heard back from Annenberg?

Has any non TTP heard back yet?

@zettasyntax I believe that case was someone who “returned to college” after taking a break after a rocky start. Of course it shows they are holistic, but it’s not necessarily the same thing as someone at fresh out of high school not doing well in college.

@csumit True, I went back to check the 2014 stats thread and they weren’t very specific as to how many units completed - just that they had an upward grade trend the spring before being admitted. Nevertheless, I’ve never seen such an example in the UCLA transfer threads when I used to lurk around those back in the day. That’s why I think USC can be awesome. Despite having to (sadly) turn away well-qualified students, they can give second chances to a lucky few that may not have the best GPAs at all.

For admitted students, Is anyone able to access the enrollment commitment deposit? or is it showing an error?

Hey guys, just wondering how likely it is to be admitted for undecided as a second choice major if transferring in as a junior? I’m currently finishing my first year at a CCC and I’ll be hopefully transferring to USC to start in fall of 2019, so I’ll be a junior. My first choice is in SCA, which I know is super competitive. I want to put undecided as my second choice major, but do they only really accept “undecided” for people who are transferring as sophomores? Just wondering what my best bet would be to get into USC. If I put something else as my second choice major besides undecided, and they didn’t accept me for my first or second choice major, could they still accept me for undecided? Sorry if this is a confusing question haha  Good luck everyone!

@rgehr123 I will confess that the reason my application for Interactive Media got rejected is because of a lackluster portfolio. For a sophomore transfer, how much work would they expect for your portfolio? Are there any prerequisite courses? At GMU, would it be acceptable to do as much game courses as possible? (As much as my courseload will allow me after all the GEs)

@star7rulz That’s what mine still says, and I was admitted March 29.

@gillianes123 Good question! I instantly thought of this one girl who applied to SCA (first choice) and Marshall (second choice), but she wound up getting accepted as undecided. I couldn’t remember if she was a sophomore or not, so I went back to the 2014 transfer stats and she had 44 units or so. How many units do you plan to have completed? I think USC is a little strange in that 64 units makes you a junior. The first time I applied, I was going to have 61 units completed prior to transfer, so I would have been quite the super sophomore. From a quick search, the highest unit count that I saw for an undecided admit was 63 units. This is definitely why more people need to post in the stats thread; more data for future applicants :stuck_out_tongue:

USC is said to consider every student for an undecided spot, so in a way, you could potentially be wasting one of your major choices. I did that. I put undecided as my first choice. If I had only known that they were going to consider it regardless, I would have put something else.

Can anyone else access the housing portal?
