Hello all,
Stats:
GPA: 3.4 (had first semester of a 2.2 to family reasons explained below, last two semesters of 4.0.)
Ethnicity: white
Major: Price
I am currently waiting to hear back from USC as a sophomore at a California Community College. My application is a bit unique due to the fact that I had a personal circumstance in which my Uncle was murdered in a home invasion which led to me becoming deeply depressed. This caused me to become very unmotivated in school (wasn’t attending class, felt sorry for myself,) and I ultimately withdrew from USD with a 2.2 GPA. My last two semesters at saddleback, I have taken 20 units each semester and have gotten A’s in every single class. I will do the same for this Spring and meet all the requirements for my Real Estate Major (Price.) I know USC really values upward trends, so hopefully that will save me. Also, my essays are very strong.
Extra Cur:
Three internships throughout the span of two years - all in the field of real estate.
Job at a beach resort and at Nike (current)
Member of the Phi Theta Kappa honors society
Started a flag football league in my city for the Boys and Girls Club
Member of the Accounting Society Club at my School.
What are my chances? Thanks for any input. I just really hope my one bad semester due to depression doesn’t ruin my college dreams.
Any advice for a portfolio for Interactive Media? As a sophomore transfer, what would they expect? I read the requirements online, but what would be the maximum amount of work they would accept?
As for extracurriculars, what kinds would they like to see? Is there a maximum? (I do not want to seem too attached to GMU on my transfer application) I feel like that I must do something up and beyond to get accepted.
When I get into USC, I really want to join the Spirit of Troy. Shame GMU has no marching band. Might as well try to start one during my time there, even though it would very very unlikely.
@mavsp1 I would say contacting your admissions counselor isn’t exactly going to exactly ‘increase your chances’ of getting in, but it certainly can’t hurt! I was in constant contact with my admissions counselor since last Summer, and I got in without an SGR.
for those who submitted Noncustodial Parent Waivers/Appeals – I contacted the financial aid office and they said they haven’t processed and reviewed them yet and won’t be completed until next month since they’re still reviewing freshman files
@aznboi4981 I nver really ‘deliberately’ asked questions to get noticed, I just about whatever worried me at that time because I actually wanted answers lol (having 29 transferable units, summer courses that weren’t available for my major, etc).
If we had something that would benefit our application or indicates an additional activity that started after starting the app, would you recommend we notify our admissions officer?
