@HeyItsNick Definitely appeal. Thanks for your insight, and best of luck to you with the remainder of your semester.
@anna717 I would think so!! Can’t be sure though. Is Marshall your 1st choice major?
Super nice of you to post @HeyItsNick, appreciate you taking the time to provide the feedback for others. Sometimes the most critical posts are done by someone that did not get in themselves, and are best guesses based on their experience, so take everything with a grain of salt. It sounded like you did everything you could, and I was hoping we could put it on bio, frankly, so you didn’t put it on yourself, because it seems you are a great fit. So many exceptional, and I mean exceptional, students don’t get in via RD or transfer. You sound like one of those. If you are not fixed on the big spirit school, you may want to look at some smaller privates with a good reputation in the area you are looking to pursue. I think an appeal is a good idea too, fight on! Wish you the very best.
@erinapage yes it is! I believe it’s the best school for business
@joeyfreshwater Yeah, I think that’s to cover people that have spring semesters that end relatively late. My spring semester ended around June 9th and I didn’t get spring grades until a few days later (the 12th?). I heard back on June 27th about my rejection. It’s unlikely you’ll have to wait until mid-July if you already have your SGR.
@HeyItsNick I appreciate the informative post as well. I know it’s hard. When I was rejected, I left some very half-hearted stats in the 2014 transfer decisions thread. I don’t think it was nearly as helpful as your post.
@anna717 You mean best school in general? Wharton, Stern and Cornell are definitely better. In California I’d consider it the best after Berkeley.
@Vincent1997 best in California. I ruled Berkeley out a while ago.
@Nick, sorry to learn you were rejected. If you love USC, I strongly recommend you consider Troy again when it comes time (if that’s your intention) to apply to graduate school. No matter what happens in life, always remember to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Keep choppin’ that wood (saying from Rutgers former football coach). In other words, Fight On!
Hey! Does anyone know what “Students Correspondence” means in the received documents tab?
@KG5APR Like if you’ve emailed your counselor in the past or something. They probably attached it to your file.
Hey @StipendAwarded , sorry for the wait but I’ll try to answer some of your questions.
I wish I could tell you what they expect from your portfolio, but like I said, I am still waiting for a decision from the SCA myself, so I can’t really give you any primary source info. While I do think a sizable portfolio is important, I think the creative work sample is what really matters. So in your case I would really try to wow them with your creative work sample. I can tell you personally that my portfolio list consists of mostly personal game projects and other projects that involve digital tools such as Photoshop, After Effects, Maya, etc. Ultimately, your portfolio should represent the skills you bring to the program as well as your creativity (IMO).
Feel free to ask me any more questions regarding the CWS, I’ll be more active on the forum from now on. Similar to your situation, I think it was my lackluster CWS that got me rejected the first time around.
Lastly, there are no gaming-related prerequisites when transferring. Most likely, your prerequisites will include a transferrable english class, low level language class, and a math class. Since I had taken up to AP Calc in high school, I was told I only needed to take english and lang (French) as pre-reqs. For the rest of my classes I mostly took transferrable GEs. In my opinion, you should focus 100% on taking GEs and pre-reqs assigned by USC to get the highest GPA possible. That’s what worked for me, but then again I had the TTP. This is really long so I’m gonna cut it short here. Again, feel free to ask more questions.
@csumit I emailed my counselor… Nothing of the sort in my received documents tab.
@KG5APR What have you contacted your counselor about in the past if you do not mind me asking?
@sandyusc I responded similar to what you are asking on this page before
Hi @StipendAwarded , sorry for the wait, I’ll try to answer some of your questions.
I wish I could tell you what the SCA is looking for in your portfolio, but like I said, I am still waiting to hear back from them myself. Personally, I can tell you that my portfolio consists mostly of personal projects involving game development and other projects involving digital software like Photoshop, After Effects, Maya, etc. Ultimately, your portfolio should represent the skills you will bring to the program as well as your creativity (IMO).
While a hefty portfolio is nice to have, I believe that even more important to your application is your Creative Work Sample. The CWS is where admissions really gets to see what you can do. Similar to your situation, I believe that a lackluster CWS is the reason for my original rejection. Feel free to ask me more questions regarding the CWS, I’ll be more active from now on.
Lastly, there are no Interactive Media related pre-reqs when it comes to transferring. Most likely, your required pre-reqs will include a transferrable english course, math course, and low level language course. In my case, I was told that I did not need to take a math class to transfer since I had taken up to AP Calc AB in high school. In my opinion, you should avoid taking extra classes, and just focus on USC required classes and transferrable GEs. That’s what worked for me, but then again I had the Trojan Transfer Plan.
This is a long post so I’m gonna cut it off here, but again, feel free to ask me more about my application, your application, or anything that comes to mind.
@aznboi4981 what did you email about? For example I emailed about giving an update to a significant recent achievement that wasn’t on my original application. I imagine they wouldn’t attach a simple question about a schedule or something.
I just checked my portal and it says to submit mid year grades, but I’m coming from a UC and we just finished our winter quarter and I sent my transcript. We’re still in syllabus week so I don’t have any Spring grades. Do you think that I should just add my Winter grades on the portal in addition to already sending the new transcript
I just checked my portal, and under the check application status section, there’s an option that says, “Click here to submit mid-year grades online.”
When I do so, it asks for senior year grades??? I’m currently a sophomore in college, plus, I submitted my high school transcript already.
Has this option always been on this page, and I just have not noticed? Confused!
@aznboi4981 it’s showing up on mine too, weird…I got excited for a second thinking it was an SGR hahaha
@durtysouth Upon further research, it seems to just be a glitch! Got my heart racing for nothing haha
Edit Just logged back in, and it disappeared.
Are the portals down today because they’re getting updated?
