If you are constantly emailing your counselor, it may have a negative impact on you. My friend kept calling her counselor asking questions and whether she got accepted or not. After the fourth email and call, she got rejected. I say go with the flow and let them make their decisions.
@Rickyandmorty I’m not sure what everyone else meant by contacting the counselor, but I meant that it can be beneficial to contact them really early on (fall or earlier, while still creating the plan) and maintaining that contact consistently but spaced out throughout the process… I agree, it wouldn’t surprise me at all for someone to be rejected for badgering their counselor
i hope its beneficial to contact them really early, i contacted my counselor back in 4/24/17
@Rickyandmorty I was in the midst of typing the same thing; I could not agree more. If the student does his/her due diligence, it will most certainly pay dividends.
Yeah, I only emailed my counselor 3 times. Once in February, once in March, and today. Hopefully that isn’t too pesky.
Yeah USC was her dream school but she needed to give Berkeley her decision. @penntousc it depends if the student bugs the counselor with questions they can easily find online they can hold it against you as my current cc counselor told me it is “wasting their time.”
@SabPardo exactly, at this point, you did everything you could. Don’t stress it too much, if it is meant to be it will be
The fact that I just spent 20 minutes looking at one single clip of the USC Admissions Instagram story. I was looking for my counselor in the “USC Admissions Office Staff Meeting” video they posted.
@aznboi4981 do you have Vargas? Did you see her?
@uscc2020 Ive been contacting mine regularly as well, but I hope it doesn’t bug her that I do. The questions I ask are pretty good as in like not info I can get on my own. Do you mind me asking who your counselor is?
I went to USD then transferred to A juco (saddleback.) I had been emailing the USD to USC admission officer for a year and a half now and my actual counselor is a girl by the name of brittney. I’ve only emailed her once and explained to her that I had been emailing another counselor who I built a great relationship with. I emailed him and he said he has already told Brittney about me and has put things in my file that I had informed him of throughout our emails. Hopefully not emailing Brittney doesn’t hurt me!
@Twenmi thats how life works, connections. Thats also the sole reason many of us want to go to USC is because of the connections. You could go to Harvard but if someone is slightly less qualified and has a relationship with the person making the decision then they will get the job, not you. Im shocked this is a surprise to you? I actually can’t think of a single instance in life where making a relationship wouldn’t benefit someone.
@saddletransfer Lol I am surprised how condescending some people in this thread can be. I was only saying when it comes to academics connections should not matter as that just introduces bias. Just because there is bias in the workforce doesn’t mean there needs to be bias in the college application process.
Also, the parallel of comparing wanting to go to USC for the networking aspect and building a connection with your counselor was a reach.
@Twenmi Don’t worry about those people. They have a LOR from a USC board member so that’s probably why they feel so strongly about it. Plenty of those at SC lmao. Connections are great, but they can only take you so far. I agree, in terms of college admission, there really shouldn’t be bias (but the emailing thing isn’t really bias imo).
@saddletransfer I thought grades, not connections, were what would get you in.
@xxanonxx I remember reading the limited/unofficial matriculation agreement between USC and GMU (limited/unofficial in that few people had transferred; I found it on the USC website), and it equates USC WRIT 130 with GMU WRIT 302 (a class that may not be taken by freshmen). The summer version of the course would be quick. Perhaps I could compromise with my counselor with my situation?
@StipendAwarded again, this is a question that only your counselor can answer
I haven’t been in contact with my counselor. Now you guys have me worried… :)]
@transfer201831 Neither have I. I managed to get all my questions answered by researching.
If my GPA, LOR, and essays are not sufficient to get me in it wasn’t meant to be for me. I will be heartbroken, but I will move forward with my backup plans.
Are people getting decisions today?
@transfer201831 it wont hurt you, when i went to the transfer day in January they literally told me how the admission process works. first the admissions team reads it and then the school your applying to (Viterbi for me) reads the application. if the school you applied to doesn’t like you. but the admission committee does they might admit you undecided or your second choice major if its at a different school.
DISCLAIMER: obviously its not always as simple this because HOLISTIC application process and sometimes they look at the application twice or three times.
Hey guys I have a question about the english requirement if anybody has answer thank you in advance. So i had transferred from a private college to a CC and I was not required to take any writing classes. When I transferred to the CC I registered late so no classes were available, however I was able to take a english 100 which is the prereq for 101 which is the one they ask for. I am worried because I will not have completed the writing requirement. By the end of the semester I will have all my GE’s completed and for my major I will have 2 to of the classes completed that they offer at my school. I am transferring as a junior so I am just wondering if it will impact my decision, I would also be taking english 101 during the summer but idk if that would be acceptable.
