Feb 19 (in person)
Applied to Guthrie last night and heard back already. They said their selection for callback weekend was complete. I asked if it was complete before my D submitted her prescreen. They said faculty looked it it yesterday. D didnât submit it until after 7:30 pm. Seems a little fishy.
Does anyone know when the callback weekend for Guthrie is? originally they said last weekend of February but letter said now might be different?
Thats certainly the big question. With only a single weekend of callbacks, you would hope they would try to avoid conflicting with any of the unified weekends given their clientele.
Itâs unfortunate that they would even send you that email from Acceptd yesterday knowing that they werenât accepting any more submissions. When I spoke yesterday about the application deadline being extended until 1/15 I was referring to the general college app, which we had put off until hearing if the prescreen was a pass. If indeed they are only doing a single weekend of callbacks, even virtual, that really limits the number of performers they can consider. I hate all of these âfishingâ emails that schools put out just trying to get more application fees.
If it was complete, fine. Even on acceptd the due date is changed. I just wish if it was complete, it would just say that instead of just taking my money. Itâs not a cheap fee.
Letter said currently determining schedule and will hear through Acceptd. Everything in flux- Chapan cancelled in-person regional auditions and now all of those are being rescheduled. I imagine there will be a lot of this. Complicated for all the programs to move around their various dates. Chapman offered a virtual option during the Unified weekend in NYC but I think it throws everyone off with flights schedule and wondering if student should simply plan to zoom from a hotel room. Covid upheaval. I feel for the students and the admissions people.
Do you know if Chapman is still holding on campus auditions? We are planning to go to campus in Jan. Itâs so hard to get a feel for a program through zoom.
Last Chapman on campus Aud date conflicts w old Guthrie date so thatâs why Iâm wondering
Chapman is still holding on campus auditions. They did note in the email that only students who live close by and donât have a lot of travel to do so should take this option because everything is still so up in the air with Covid.
I am wondering about dates as well. As things move around itâs bound to create schedule conflicts. Schools like BU have not (as far as I know) sent pre-screen notices but they have already announced that everything will be on-line. Chapman did offer some weekday morning times for virtual auditions.
Hello, sorry to intrude on the class of 2026 BFA results congrats to everyone on your acceptances they are all hard-earned and deserved! I am a current junior in highschool and was wondering if there was a reason of of you applied originally so early and what are the benefits of doing so? (Early and mid September)
(I have stalking through the chat from the beginning to end and before this forum Iâve never heard of applying early September so forgive me if this is a dumb question )
Hey there! Many of the colleges only have so many slots for auditions that come on a first come first serve. So you want to get them in soon to secure a slot if able.
heard back from Emerson this afternoon - I passed! submitted on 12/30
I think there are several reasons to apply early:
- As missychee pointed out - to get the first/best choice of audition slots
- To spread out the stress of applying to multiple schools
- Personality - some people just arenât procrastinators and some people need to hear results sooner rather than later
- To avoid issues being last minute. These could be technical issues but occasionally some schools would have one date posted in acceptD and then a different due date on their website. Submitting early avoids all that stress.
Yes! I would further add that the stress level difference between starting at least some essays and prescreens before senior year is well underway is huge!
In my childâs case we are so glad to have done an early aud and gotten an acceptance bc w Covid the jan feb audition season is now blowing up!
There are some schools that offer (non-binding) Early Action BFA slots: Elon (acting and MT), SMU (acting), Baldwin Wallace (MT), and Chapman (acting) are a few I can think of. You apply early, do an early audition, and get final notification by mid-December. So thatâs one reason. Another may be that you get early notification and can get first pick of the audition slots so you can fit everything in just the way you want to.
Later in the process, you might not be able to go to all the auditions you want because the times/locations you prefer are taken. I know of one person who had to go to all three Unifieds (LA, Chicago and NYC) because those were the only slots that were left.
It is right for those who are âreadyâ Ie they have their material set and do not need the extra time you would get from a January or February audition date. We were late bloomers so needed all the time we could get to squeeze in as much training as possible. You can still submit prescreens and apps in an earlier fashion (around October) and get great audition slots. Just know nothing is a one size fits all. If you read the stories here many saw a major difference from early to later in the audition season.
