No way of knowing- seems like all the schools are different. Michigan said they called back about 1/3 out of about 400 applicants but it looks like some school’s call back many more *Syracuse and some many less *Purchase
Hi thanks for that info, can you clarify the UM stats? For Acting or MT? What is the 400number? Those who made it past pre-screens? Sorry, I’m confused
Us too! We keep refreshing our page every 15 minutes lol! I’m wondering when the emails will go out!
At the callback/information session UMich said (in the context of telling the students to try and relax) that they had over 400 applications to the BFA Acting program and had called back just about 1/3.
For MT Umich said they called back 418. They had over 1500 apply.
Hope everyone at Unifieds today is staying warm and dry!!!
D got her CMU audition notification just now!!!
Did she audition today and get a reply already? MT or Acting?
She auditioned back on January 15th. She’s acting
Our daughter received a YES artistic acceptance for the BFA Acting program from Marymount Manhattan last night. She had applied for the BFA MT program and received a No for that program with them and a YES to the Acting program. We are curious what it is like to be a part of their BFA Acting program with regards to if at Marymount she could still do vocal and:or dance training etc If anyone can shed any light, that would be great!
Yei!!! Is always good news to get accepted!
In NYC she’ll have plenty of opportunities to dance / sing so congratulations!!
May I ask you when did your daughter auditioned?
Congratulations again!!
that seems really low from what i remember in years past
what a scene!! crazy but exciting!
@kj_ireland @khrmail @elizabethdrama22 @dharmawins Michigans numbers are pretty consistent year to year. To clarify “callback” means passed the prescreen - with 1500 applications, around 400 pass prescreens. From there it’s audition and then you wait until their admission decision, which is around mid-March for all applicants academic and artistic. For Michigan around 20 will be admitted for BFA MT - half male/half female.
Wow. Then we completely misunderstood. We were sure he said about 400 applications and that they called back about 1/3 with admit of around 20 (which seems crazy enough). I can’t get over this process. Note this is acting not MT. I can’t help but be nervous. My D had such a weekend with both Juilliard and UNCSA Saturday and Sunday. When she got home yesterday afternoon she slept for 4 hours. With another intense weekend coming up. These kids are pretty remarkable. The nerves of steel and the resilience.
Did anyone attend callbacks at Purchase this past weekend via zoom? Curious how they went.
I cannot either. And to think I was anxious for my S18 when he applied to college as a linguistics major.
I keep going back to what another mom shared with me last year when I reached out for help to guide my daughter in this process:
“Unlike academia, which is pretty straight forward, with assessments - theater/film/television is subjective, so she could be one person’s cup of tea and not another’s in the exact same audition. Those schools are trying to fill a cast list - she could be exactly what they are looking for to fit in last year’s class, rather than this year’s class, and get denied acceptance…
With that, what will keep her from not being accepted is only partially in her control. Those are the areas she should focus.
- Pick great audition pieces.
- Write a bomb essay
- Practice interviewing to show her authentic self
The other elements she can’t control. That piece is so hard and, in my opinion, more difficult than a rejection for an academic application. It can feel personal, obviously. I feel it’s super important to remember the concept of a cast list and spots they need to fill from a prior graduating class. Even on your best day, they pick someone else, not because they are better than you, but because they needed a small child-like blonde and not a 6 foot tall, baby-faced young woman."
Anyway, as I told her brother, “all you need is one." And I truly believe they all end up at that “one.”
BAL!
God I hear you. My son applied to college the same year- 2018 and I was anxious then too. He’s graduating this year with a double major in Computer Science in Music. The college process in general has become so fraught. My d knows all of this wonderful insight you are sharing or at least she has heard it but they are all still kids. We came into this process late - she didn’t even film her prescreens until November and it was a few takes before she had stuff she was satisfied with. I hope she cast a wide enough net.
Indeed. Congrats to your son and best to your D. If it helps, same for my D. Fingers crossed!
Best to your D as well. And fingers crossed. Can’t wait until May 1! BAL!
