2070 - bad idea to EA Yale?

Hi, I am a rising senior in Canada and i dunno whether i should apply to schools EA/ED (due to my SAT scores). Grades/preparation-wise, i think time isn't a problem but i am realli worried about sat scores.

Because EA/ED scores must be in by the November test date and i haven't taken any SAT IIs yet, i am not sure if i can make it. I am planning to retake the new SAT in Oct and the 3 SAT II's (probably math IIC/bio/phys) in Nov. I also noticed that the Chinese SAT II would be in Nov as well. Would colleges disregard the chinese sat score if i am a native speaker?

I wanted to apply EA but lookin at my stats, i think it might hurt my chances because of the greater competition among EA applicants. I thought about applying to the "lower" ivies - (brown/dartmouth/cornell/columbia) ED but i am not sure if i will be able to make it. If i was lucky enough to get in lesser ivies ED, and some deities helped me into harvard/yale/or princeton RD...then i would have to decline the offer from my big threes...so stressed

SAT : 2070 (730 V 690 M 650 W essay: 10) - i was expecting 2250 + since i prepped hard and was expecting 800 M so i didn't practice the math parts on prac tests XD. retaking in oct of sure - ~ 2250?

SAT II: my school doesn't have single-yr courses so i couldn't take the sat ii's sonner. I am studying for these in the summer and possibly taking them in Nov.

HS n stuff:

Grades- i dunno my exact GPA and our school doesn't rank. but i have approx 6 A's and 2 B's (the occasional 5 A 3 B argh)

that's about what i can remember for my info...i'll add if i find anymore info..Could u help me by assessing my chances (EA/ED/RD) at these american universities? It would realli help me when i apply to them this coming fall. =) thanks!

i have a 2080, but a 1400 on m/v

im applying EA.

btw, the SAT isn't everything.

Your SATs are a little low for the schools you like, so I'd suggest waiting until RD to apply. Everthing is left a little late for you, and if something goes wrong on one of those tests, you'll have another test date to fix it.

i would suggest looking around at other schools, not necessarily because of your scores, but because it seems (and i could be wrong) that you haven't given much thought to what you want in a school. the only thing the ivies have in common is size (and even there they vary some) and the fact that they're ivies. seriously. they each have VERY different "personalities" and strengths. it seems unlikely that you would actually like each and every ivy. so look around some and perhaps you will find more schools that you like that (and this is based only on your sat scores) are more in your "range." :)

"Would colleges disregard the chinese sat score if i am a native speaker?"

I don't think Yale particularly cares. I did it and got in.

thx for the advice! i'm also applying to canadian universities =) they are much easier for canadians haha XD

I would go ahead and EA. Get your rejection out of your system early and move on with other applications.

you all know that his scores are in the mid range?

690 - 770 are the mid range for the sats.

They may be mid range, but they are not ideal

well, his ECs lack, so he won't get in.

EC > GRades

Grades are undoubtedly the most important. SATs are equally important if the person comes from a household with ample opportunities. ECs are important to distinguish between people with satisfying grades.

I just got back from a YALE recruiting seminar in Florida, where the guy said SAT's are NOT a top priority. Then again, we got the invite 'cause I'm a merit semi.

SATs aren't top priority because they get 10,000+ apps with 1500+ SATs. If they weren't getting them, they would suddenly become the priority.

SATs are still important - bottom line, they aren't going to want to take someone with a 1300 type score, if you've read The Gatkeepers, you'll see that they hesitate a lot before considering someone with subpar scores. I think that a lot of people are beginnig to downplay the SATs, which will only work to the detriment of the people they're advising.

Totally wrong logic Bandit. I think SAT's are in fact just (if not moreso) important than ever. It's just that now you need the 1500+ to be considered.

That's not quite so, considering the average SAT score at Yale is around 1470 or so.

I would venture to say that SAT II scores have become much more important than people think.

You don't need 1500 to be considered, but you won't get a positive consideration with under 1350.

probably is a bad idea

ali_liu, when you say you have 6 a's and 2 b's, is that on the canadian scale (80< = A)? Im just wondering if yale will look at it the same way

I have a 1400 on the m/v. And you think that is subpar? Wow, dual 700s is anything but subpar.
