21.5in iMac

Has anyone tried bringing a 21.5 in iMac (the desktop all built in ones) to the dorms? Do they fit on our desk with out inhibiting the use of the shelves? Trying to decided wether to get an iMac or macbook pro.
Thank you :)

Unless you have a specific reason to get a desktop I’d go for the MacBook. You need the portability if you want to study somewhere other than your room or take notes in class. The only person I knew with a desktop also had a netbook. With that being said, an iMac will fit at the front of the desk for sure and probably the back as well. Worst case scenario you just take off the shelves and put them next to your desk.

If you really want the big screen, get an external monitor to go with the MBP. That way, you can have the best of both worlds. Monitors are cheap anyway (unless you were planning to buy an Apple display).

Get the MacBook.

I had a desktop, and it fit on the desk easily. I had no need for portability. I take notes on paper and can’t even imagine how I would use a computer to study for most of my classes (I’m a math major). Desktops are cheaper, more reliable and have better performance. I would actually say that unless you have a specific reason to get a laptop, it makes much more sense to have a desktop.

I wouldn’t get an iMac though. They cost twice as much as comparable Windows machines. MBP’s are a much better value.

Yeah I think i’m going to go with the macbook pro. The portability would probably come in handy if i get a really annoying room mate and i don’t really want a power outage to erase a half written paper.T_T
Thanks guys
