2130 Too Low for National Merit Finalist?

I qualified for National Merit Semifinalist, and to become a Finalist you need to have "comparable" SAT scores, right? Since 2130 (213 in PSAT terms) is lower than the Semi-Finalist cutoff, would this score be incomparable to my previous PSAT score of 232? Or do I need to take the SAT again? I'm just so bad at the essay... ^^;

how many national merit finalist can you have? only one?

There are many finalists, about 90%of the semif., i think. I dont think that you need to take it again just to be semifinalist. Almost all of the semifinalists make finalists, mainly since many of the semifinalists dont even fill out the paper work. I think your fine.

short answer is no. long answer is no. i know someone who got it with an old SAT of 1390.

That's a big drop off...232 to 2130?
Not to be mean or anything, how did that happen?

It was the essay. I got a 6 out of 12..., which brought down my writing score 70 points. >_< I did really well on everything else, so I was really mad. Oh well, taking it again won't be too bad.

I had a huge drop too; 238 to 222. Mainly it's because I didn't study enough though. I'm retaking in May/June.

Just a random question...suppose you are currently a junior and you took the SAT in the fall of your junior year and scored above what you did on the PSAT. Do you have to retake to get NMF? Or can I keep my 2270 and send that in as my SAT score? (I qualified for NMSF - mid-220s - though I haven't gotten the letter yet and won't till August, I believe).

You don't have to re-take the SAT if you're happy with your score as a sophomore-senior, as far as I know. Double-check with your GC to be SURE (s/he should have all the info). My son took his PSAT in fall of junior year & the SAT in the fall as well. He wouldn't have retaken except they added the writing, so he had to take the NEW SAT with writing in the spring of junior year. He hasn't taken it again & is a NMF.

I got 2160 last year and didn't even make it to Semi-Finalist..all I got was "Letter of Commendation." Congrats on making it and good luck! 3 of my friends are finalists. ^^;;

Whether you are a NMSF depends on your PSAT score you get on the test you take in the fall as a junior. It does NOT depend on you SAT score, tho the SAT score can affect whether you become a NMF. Glad you were commended & congrats to your friends who made NMF too.

Oh sorry I meant 216. I got the same on my first SAT I and PSAT so I get mixed up. >.<
