Hey everybody! I just took the January SAT and got a 2220 composite score. This was my first time ever taking it.
Broken down: 730 CR 750 M 740 W (10 essay and 73 MC)
This was my first time, and I am absolutely positive that I can raise my CR score (I just missed vocab questions)
Is it worth it for me to try and retake? If so, to what score? 2250? 2300? I am really happy with the 2220, but I know I can do better. I just want some feedback about whether or not its actually worth it.
I am aiming for HYPS as well as schools like Duke, Tufts, Wash U in St. Louis, and UCLA.
Thank you so much for answering my question! All feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I am a co-applicant but as far as my knowledge goes, you got very good scores on all the three sections. The adcoms don’t look at the composite score. They care about the individual scores. The composite scores of the middle 50% admitted students on the colleges’ websites are for the purpose of stats. So if I were you, I wouldn’t retake SAT.

I would retake. It was your first time taking it. You can definitely do better if you work at it. Take the time to prepare well, though - maybe take the June exam and do lots of practice tests until then. Aim to consistently get above 2300, and your college chances will go up a lot. No matter what people say, there is a difference between 2200 and 2300, even just from looking at the stats and seeing that most people who get into HYPS (at least here on CC) have above 2300.

Thanks for the info guys. I honestly don’t know what happened with my writing score because i thought i did better than a 740, so im almost positive that i can bring that up as well.
I’ll retake this March, and I will heavily focus on SAT Vocab. On the 5 questions that I missed for CR, at least two were vocab memorization questions. Thank you so much!If anyone has anything else, even tips for improving my CR scores, I would be greatly appreciative

Bump (10char)

Bump!!! Guys please answer! I am going to retake but I would really love some advice from people who have been in similar situations and gotten their scores up! Right now I am heavily concentrating on vocab (EVERY question I missed on the SAT was vocab)… but are there are any ways to improve in other areas??? Specifically, is a 2220 actually a score that i shouldn’t be worried about? I mean I am pretty content with it, its just that i feel pressured to take it again in order to compete (score-wise) with other applicants. I have an 800 on World History already, and should be getting 750 + in Math II, Chem, Bio M, and Spanish later this year. I have a 4.52 weighted and participate in tons of EC. Let me know if you think its worth it to actually retake.
I REALLY APPRECIATE IT :)
