2290 SAT, chance me for cornell.

I just finished my application for Cornell at common app, so all that's left is waiting.

to make waiting less painful, I wanted to ask people for what I should look forward to

I applied Cornell Engineering, and for alternative school I pick school of arts and science.

Here are my info.

I'm legal resident of Olympia WA and citizen of South Korea.

SATs look good, but GPA a little low. Extracurriculars look solid, but could have shown more focus. How do you feel about your essays/recs?

when ur rank is not 10% of ur graduating class its very hard to say that u will have a good chance.

I don’t get the the importance of rank.

I have also have great scores and focused engineering related EC’s but becuase my 9th grade was taken in JrHigh, when I still didn’t take school seriously, my UW GPA is only 3.80. 9 AP classes and a Scholar with Distinction. But my class rank is in the top 11 %, not 10%. When so many schools don’t even rank anymore, why the emphasis?

“why the emphasis?”

Thank USNews for the emphasis. Raising the % of student in top 10% was the core of UPenn’s strategy to game the system, and due to its success, every other school now tries to do the same.

“Why the emphasis?”

Rank serves as somewhat as a school profile. GPA at mediocre school is not the same as GPA a really competitive prep school. Your rank can let a college know how hard you’ve worked in comparison to your peers. Colleges aren’t just looking for a bright student; they are looking for a bright student that works harder than most others.

pretty good chances, but gpa will hurt you.

Toss out 9th grade and I would be top 5%. Last year our district finally joined the 21st century and went to 4 year high schools. Last large district in the state to do so. Should help the kids coming up.

With those SAT scores, I would say you’re chances are solid. However, considering you’re an ORM, your GPA is average (average Cornell is around 3.8) and your ECs aren’t “wow”, I would say it’s all up to your essays.
Good essays: match
Decent essays: reach
Poor essays: high reach

Please chance back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1062868-chance-swede-wharton-harvard-yale-etc.html

Yep you’re in. Cornell is the easiest to get in out of all the ivy colleges. You should be fine. GOOD LUCK!

Chance me back please!

What worries me about your application more than anything is your EC’s. Do you have any engineering research experience? Cornell, like other large research institutions, heavily views research component as an important factor to consider. Considering that your GPA is good but not highly exceptional, you’ll have to be judged based on the EC’s.

I see volunteer hours and other activities, but the fact that you do not have any solid research experience may hinder your admission significantly.
