24 inch monitors?

For my grad present I built my self a nice desktop. I already have an older laptop running linux that I use for any mobility needs. I know that a desktop is bigger and that whole debate, but I decided on it. Here's my question. I currently have a 19" flat screen monitor that is a few years older (not HD and all that nice stuff). I was thinking about getting a newer 24" monitor. I use my desktop for everything. It was fast and I have tons of tv shows on it, I watch most of my tv from hulu and other sites, all my movies, games, pictures, and anything else you can imagine I do on my desktop. I plan on getting a TV tuner for it, just not this semister because I don't want to pay for cable. Neither my room mate or I is brining a TV so I thought the 24" monitor would be nice to have and a decent investment. I was just wondering if it would be TOO big for a dorm that it wouldn't even be worth it. From what I can tell, It seems that a lot of student who have monitors have 24", but I just wanted to know what other people think.
Thanks.

Here's the actual monitor I'm thinking about.
Newegg.com - ASUS VW246H Glossy Black 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ASCR 20000:1 (1000:1) Built-in Speakers

It’ll fit in your dorm room. Whether or not it’d be too big is up to your own decision.

Personally, I think the egronomics are worth it.

Not too big.

I own the webcam version of that monitor myself, and it works great for me. Great size for games+movies, and the 1920x1080 resolution is great for watching videos/tv shows since they all share the 16:9 ratio. The only thing you should be weary of is that since this is a much higher resolution monitor compared to your 19", you will need more GPU power to play a game on here.

If you have the money, definitely grab it.

I have a 21.5" monitor with the same resolution. It’s freaking HUGE. I don’t think I could handle something much bigger for using as a computer screen at a desk. I sit 3-5 feet away when I watch movies on it. I’d seriously suggest going to bestbuy or somewhere and just looking at the different size monitors.

You should only get bigger monitors if the pixel ratio is higher and not the same as smaller screen monitors, otherwise there is no benefit to a large one unless you want to sit further away from the monitor.
