$250 for parking. THIS IS MADNESS!

I was expecting to get molested by the parking @ UCLA, but I had no idea it was going to be $250 per quarter.

So my question is, if we don't decide to park wherever it is we can park on campus, for those of us who have cars, where do we park?

Oh…that’s expensive.

$1000/year for parking? Jeez, just don’t bring a car. Ride a bike.

ok this is seriously ridiculous…how am I supposed to go home when I want to without my car???
so lame.

THIS IS LOS ANGELES!!!

I had to…

my question still stands: "So my question is, if we don’t decide to park wherever it is we can park on campus, for those of us who have cars, where do we park?

Dude obviously somewhere on the streets around the school IF you can actually find a spot. Most places have signs about how long you can park there tho, so you will have to be moving your car around all day…its basically impossible…UCLA obviously wants you to buy the parking pass so they aren’t gonna make it easy for you to just find another spot to park for free.

You can either park on campus or park on campus. Failing that, you could park on campus.

heh…you can scour the interwebs looking for spaces/garages available nearby. Anything in the immediate area will likely cost you nearly as much, if not more, than parking on campus though. Anything not in the immediate area will probably be monumentally inconvenient, so it really depends on how badly you want to save the money.

“UCLA obviously wants you to buy the parking pass”

I think it’s more obvious that they are not encouraging you to bring a car. Not sure what your situation is, but unless you plan to go home A LOT, it’s probably cheaper to fly then to park.

Cars, traffic, etc are a HUGE issue in LA. (P.S., I went to UCLA, lived in Westwood in the 90’s). Also lived in New York, and near SM Francisco, where a similar craziness exists, but in those cities there is great public transit.

Sophee beat me to the punch, but on a serious note…get a handicap pass! Free parking at bunche building in north campus lol. I fractured my back 2 years back, and I think it’s flaring up again (the pain is unbearable!) so I may have to request another 6 month pass :X

You can also park along Veteran Ave which is a lil far but walking distance but you would have to move your car once a week for street cleaning.

That’s what my friends do.

if you are living in an apartment and don’t want to pay for parking you park on the street. one side is thursday street sweeping one side is friday street sweeping. unless you park in a 2 hour spot you wont have to move your car around all day. there are only a few streets with 2 hour parking and it is over at 4. sometimes parking can be a pain and take a while but it is better than paying $250 a quarter. you’ll mostly have to move your car twice a week once you learn which side is which for street sweeping which i dont think is that bad. but maybe that is just because i’m used to the parking situation in that area.

i’m sure some people dont live far enough to fly home but still are having a hard time figuring out what to do about a car.

i know when i didn’t have a car and i was going to school up north i hated it. i just dont like to have to depend on someone else to take me somewhere.

i’m bringing my car to ucla but thankfully my apt. comes with parking even though i still would if it didn’t

EXACTLY… that’s why I’m not bringing my car.

Won’t be able to drive right over to the beach whenever I want, but gotta settle since I can barely pay tuition right now.

"i’m sure some people dont live far enough to fly home but still are having a hard time figuring out what to do about a car. "

I see what you mean. I was considering the fact that UCLA is a school with national draw. In schools with national draw, it is not at all unusual for students not to have their car with them. That’s what I like about “zip” car programs. I think Cal has one.

what she said…

Lol… parking is really expensive at UCLA…

take buses…

$250 a quarter aint that bad… factoring in your living expenses…

my suggestion to save that cost is to rent your own apartment and keep the space for yourself.

250 , if you are lucky enough to get a pass.

There are a few people who resell passes for 300-350 on craigslist/ebay within the first week.

I got a Westwood Chateau apt and it says no parking available…from looking at past fee schedules, they state the fees with and w/o parking…why did I get screwed into not getting parking? I live about 2 1/2 hrs away so I will be going home regularly…anyone know how I can get parking at the apt. complex? or something near by? I’ve already started looking at craigslist for parking and will driving up next week to look around…

help!

Why do you think you’re entitled to park for free, just because you want to?
