I'm a CC student, and I just got offers from UCSD and UCD as an economics major. I am waiting for UCLA(economics) and UCB (Haas). My GPA is 3.84, so I think my chance is low for UCLA/UCB.
If I get reject from UCLA/UCB, I want to use my 2nd plan: continuing take courses at community college and work full-time at Actuarial company which is related to my future career. And apply to UCLA/UCB in Fall 2013. So I will get more work experience and also raise my GPA to 3.9+ which is the average for UCLA econ.

My dream school are UCLA and UCB, so I think I can wait one more year in order to get in.

How do you guys think? Does it worth to study one more years? I really need your help!

What courses would you be taking if you spent another year? Have you completed all prereqs?

If you have completed prereqs OR are pretty much done with the prereqs, I personally would just go to UCSD IF you don’t get admission. It is not worth the extra year of time. Admissions get tougher every year and if you don’t get in next year, it will be tougher on you since you spent an extra year.

if you want to do investment banking or go in some other field which they take into account the prestige of your college, then you must go to UCB or UCLA (and these schools barely make it in, most jobs go to the ivy league schools). if your future job doesn’t require undergraduate prestige, then go to ucsd.

another option is going to ucsd and then getting an mba from UCB/UCLA/UPenn/Ivy league. this would take you 5 years and would = the amount of time it would take for you to graduate from la/berk as an undergrad (if you don’t get in this year).

of course, every option requires a high gpa so just keep working hard. i hope you get in this year, your gpa is fine for econ at ucla. good luck.

@siqness I will complete all pre-req and all IGETC by this Spring, and I will have 66 units to transfer. As I am an international students, so I have to take CPT (practical training) course in order to work as full-time job off-campus. I have considered that if I will not get in next year, I just wasting one more year. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

I would say pay a visit to the SD campus if you already haven’t, see if you are sure on your decision before you make it but nonetheless, good luck to you this Friday!

@HeatZz I want to do accounting, invest banking/financing. I just found that UCSD offers Accounting minor which prepare for CPA exams. So Im thinking if I can pass this exam after studing at UCSD, I can compete with other prestige colleges at work field. Am I right?
I like your another option which is MBA, and I’m planning do that in future.
Thanks very much for your advice. As you said, I think the most important thing right now is keep my GPA higher in order to apply for good MBA schools after undergraduate.
