3-4 point increase for Dec. ACT?

Just got my Oct score today, a sad 30 :frowning: Aiming for a 33 for more competitive schools, and am going to register now for the Dec. ACT.

For Math, I used the ACT Red Book 2017, but I had trouble figuring out how to properly use it. Any tips on how to maximize my use of the ACT Red Book? Should I opt for the older Red Book or purchase for use again the 2017 version?

For Science, I read ā€œFor the Love of ACT Scienceā€ is supposed to be really good. Should I use this? Any tips on maximizing my use of it?

I plan on studying 2 hours/2 hours 30 min a day, I really canā€™t afford any more than that, and than 3+ on the weekends (taking practice tests, etc.). I used pretty much all the official tests already. I know I need to practice reading just a tad more (34 being my highest), but Iā€™m always stuck at a 35 for English. I donā€™t know how to get to that 36 LOL.

If I get even a 32 I will be happy. But I canā€™t settle for a 30.

Thank you guys for your help!

Also my score break down for Oct:
E: 35
M: 26
R: 33
S:26
I thought for sure science would be ok but I did run out of time on the last passage. Math is my weakest subject in general :frowning:

So I took the ACT in 2015 and Iā€™m not sure if there is a difference from now than before but here is some advice.

Math is basically basics. Go back and review all of the stuff from algebra to pre-cal. Then try to see how far you can go with the review questions in various ACT preparation books.

Science is a bit different. The goal of the science is to understand the experiment rather than the concepts of chemistry/biology and so forth. My advice is to never read the passage unless you really have no idea what the experiment is trying to do, and read only the experiment numbers they give you. Most of the answers come from those numbers.

For Reading and English, unless you really are challenging yourself for 36 because you believe that it really is inadequate to you as a person(which I believe isnā€™t), donā€™t focus on them.

Damn didnā€™t realize that this was from a week ago. Sorry.

@deathcrusher13 Itā€™s OK, thank you! I wanted to get a 36 to help make up for lower scores in math and science, tis all. Iā€™m content with a 35 if I can get my science and math to 30+. So far Iā€™ve been working in the Love for ACT Science book, which is awesome. Math I havenā€™t started working on yet, doing that tonight. Thanks!
