I know I still have to do the WIP thing...but I have heard that they only look at it for borderline applicants. Now what are my chances? I am going to apply to all of the UCs. I know I don't have chance in UCLA and UCB...but what about the others?

Hey, I'm a prospective transfer and am entering community college this Fall. I've done quite a bit of research and am able to provide you with some information.

First of all: UCB will be a reach. It is the #1 UC out there and if you have extremely good ECs and other stuff, then you might have some chance. Basically, it is a reach (however long of a reach, I do not know, sorry...). For UCLA, it is a whole different story. I would say that you have a pretty decent chance for admission, that being taken only from the fact that you have a 3.7 GPA since the average transfer admit GPA to HSSEAS was 3.77 for Fall 2005, I believe. Now, that is the average and not the bare minimum GPA that everyone gets, which means that HSSEAS must have admitted students with lower GPAs than that and students with higher GPAs. If I were you, I would try to have a bunch of ECs under my belt, along with a possible scholarship and clubs (hopefully top positions in the clubs).

I only know of one guy who had a 3.6 and didn't have many ECs and other stuff, and since he was doing Computer Science (part of HSSEAS), he didn't come close to the average transfer admit GPA to HSSEAS...

I wouldn't be concerned about any other UCs. I think you have a rather good chance for admission to UCSD since their reqs are lower than UCLA's even. All the others are below the top 3, so after that...you have a good chance for admission.

Could you tell me what the WIP thing is? I wanted to know so that I would know what it is in the future and wouldn't be left out of luck for that reason.

WIP = Work in Progress...basically you fill this out in January I think which includes your fall semester grades and planned courses for Spring semester

I don't realy have time to clubs but I am vice-president of Engineering Club and member of Phi Theta Kappa...

i heard from UC reps that they definitly look at ur Fall grades, sometimes even Winter if u're border line.

highschoolda: I remember someone posting a table which outlined eact UCs policy on Fall grades...if I remember correctly most of the said that it's for borderline applicants...:dunno:

It's possible that UCLA transfer counselor was wrong. but yeah seems a little grey. Several situations that makes me believe they look at it.

Two friends of mine transfered from UCSD to UCLA a year after High School w/ AP scores to fill 60 unit req. They had no college classes when they applied.

I wouldn't be suprised if they do look at it b/c year is not really enough especially for some people who don't get much done in the first year.

I emailed a staff member in the Transfer Student Center at UC Berkeley a long time about the WIP form (Fall grades, etc...) and if it is incorporated into the decision (GPA, etc...). His name was Ken Gonsalves and he is the Coordinator of Outreach Programs and Services. Here is his response...

"Hi ****,

We do factor in fall grades. That is why it is so
important for students to fill out their WIP
forms in a timely manor so we can properly asses
each applicant. In years past we did not include
fall grades but that is no longer the case.

Thank you,

ah so it's a new thing....that's why
