Hi, I am a current freshman in an engineering school in a USNews Top 30 school. I hope to transfer to schools like Penn, Columbia, Duke, Cornell, JHU, USC, etc. for next semester. I’ve heard that you should try aiming for a 3.8+ for a good shot but for my first semester at college I ended with around a 3.7. Is there a (good) chance I can get admitted or will my application get trashed automatically because of my GPA? I am a computer science major, but I am planning on applying to either engineering school or CAS, depending on which is easier to get in. Any past acceptances/stats on these schools (or similar) would be super
helpful, especially if GPA was 3.7 or lower. I’m just wondering whether it’ll
be worth spending time writing the essays.
Depends upon your current school, academic rigor of courses taken & reasons for wanting/needing to transfer.
People have certainly done it. I’ve heard of students transferring into Penn with a 3.5 GPA from T30 schools. however, everything that Publisher mentioned is true and counts. Good luck!
Hey! Don’t be discouraged! I think class rigor and extra credits play a big role in it. Good luck
@college01345 From all that I’ve read it seems like there is a certain factor of “the right fit” associated with Ivy Transfer decisions. They are definitely looking at more than just your grades. Honestly, just apply, the worst you can get is a “no”.
