I have to take one more semester of elective to fulfill one of my graduation requirements. Here's the issue. A 200 level course is worth 4 credits, and a 300 level course is worth 3 credits. Which would you rather take and why?

It's a subject that I do no wish to spend much time on studying especially because I'm taking a number of other challenging (and more important) courses. So, I will be taking either 20 credits or 19 credits depending on which of these two classes I decide to take. Any help appreciated.

You might get better answers if you list the course names.

Have you considered taking the class during the summer at a cc? If it must be a Rutgers course, is it available online during the summer? (it will cost you 1k for 3 credits, be warned).

In the absence of specifics, I would probably take the 3 credit course over the 4 credit course.

I agree!! If you are taking other challenging courses, it will be better to take a 3 credit course especially that you are not interested in the subject.

The subject is psychology. One of my friends is in a 300 level course (3 credits), and he’s not having a very good time; I heard the course is very challenging and extremely time consuming. These courses are also primarily intended for psych majors. Since I have no interest whatsoever in becoming a psychologist, I have to think carefully before I make a move.

Do you really think it’s a good idea to take the 300 level psych over the 200 level?

The difficulty in psych courses seems to be pretty inconsistent, it varies by professor. Some professors have easier exams or grading systems. For example, I hear Karlin is a terrible choice for Abnormal psych, but Atwood is very easy. With psych classes, I would select based off of the professor instead of course number. Use ratemyprofessors and GPA Booster Classes at Rutgers to your advantage :)

If it’s just an elective, why do you have to take an advanced level psych course? Can’t you take something entertaining but not too demanding? Why not take something at a cc during the summer?

First, no, I will not take summer classes, because I can’t afford the time during the summer. Second, engineers are required to take 2 semesters of elective from the same subject (a 100 level course and any upper level of THAT same subject). If I decide to take something else, I will have to start the process all over again to continue on the new subject I chose after I finish its 100 level course. Why foolishly waste time and money like that?
