3 qs wrong = 710?!

I just saw my sat detailed score report and got 3 questions wrong.. which made me end up with a 710..
but when i took practice tests from almost any book, upto 3-4 mistakes, the score conversion scale said 800.
so is there anything i can do about this??.. . losing 90pts over 3 mistakes is a lot..

Did you skip any?

What section are you talking about?

Perhaps there was a really bad curve that time. It happens.

3 qs wrong = 50 raw score. That’s usually 710-730 (740 most I think) in terms of the curve. It’s perfectly normal. Of course, when I had 2 mistakes it was 760. Then when I had 3 mistakes it was 710. That’s just not fair to me. I have no idea where that 3rd mistake popped up from.

Sounds a bit unusual, but like poppyeyed said, it can happen. The grading scale/curve just seems a bit harsh. I got 4 questions wrong on one part and got a 700, so I guess -3 could be a 710.

Which section was this?

I’m going to guess that you are referring to the math section

On the March Exam I missed 3 and skipped 1, and I received a 710

I got 4 wrong in writing and 10 essay and got a 700 again…
Writing curve was really bad.

Math was a average and CR was a little harsher than average.

that’s usually true. for my sat, i got 2 wrong and i got a 740, so it was a whooping 60 pts for 2 questions. i know its so frustrating.

I missed 3 (and 2 were on free response so there was no guessing penalty) and I got 720 on the real SAT math section.

I got 4 wrong, did not omit any, and an 8 (…>:( ) on my essay, and got a 660…

stupid curve

Yeah writing was absolutely terrible. - 5 and a 12 essay for only a 730…

^I got -4 Total on Writing with a 10 essay and only got 710. Shouldn’t that be like 720-730 instead???

Yup, they’re cruel and heartless. We know.

9 essay and 49/49 MC and 790. Don’t hate me, but this is frustrating. The score’s great, yeah, but frustrating  Especially since my essay deserved a 10.
At any rate, the writing curve was horrible, since the MC was so easy. Math was average, CR no idea. Got worse than last time on both anyway.

I got 3 mistakes and a 12 essay = 740 in writing. D;

*** you got 9 essay and 49 MC and you got 790?

I got 9 essay and 45 MC I’m getting 680.

Geez, 4 points is worth 110 marks???

5 points. And yeah, the curve for the 700’s is really harsh. Gets more lenient after that.
I hate the inconsistency in the essay grades.

How does Collegeboard count/define the curves, if I may ask?

@jimmy: if you got 10 in your essay, you would have received a 800 in the writing section. Do you think it is possible to ask CB to rescore your essay?
