Okay I'm a sophomore right now in highschool.. I have a 4.2 weighted gpa and a 3.6 unweighted; this is my 1st semester gpa and I feel really depressed right now because I don't know how much it will impact in the near future when I'm going to apply colleges

My top college choices are :
Vanderbilt Univ., Georgetown Univ., Colgate Univ., Middlebury College .. obviously I can't say Harvard cuz that's just unrealistic since I have already failed my 1st semester of my goddam sophomore year

How bad do you think this gpa is? I'm trying SUPER HARD and I've dedicated myself to improve on the next semester aiming for a 4.5 or 4.4 :(

Please guys is this gpa really that bad? How much will it affect my college applications in the future? Would UCLA even accept this low gpa?

It really isn’t bad at all, you’re fine. You’re a first semester sophomore- if you feel like you want to boost your GPA, you’ve got plenty of time to do so.

I’d suggest bumping your unweighted GPA up to about 3.7 or 3.8, but it sounds like you’re already working on that.

Not bad. You sound like me a couple years ago.

I had a 3.57 U.W. g.p.a first semester of sophomore year and a 4.0 U.W every other semester. My overall U.W. g.p.a is 3.95 and my rank is 1/850. I took 17 Ap classes though =P

Assuming that you use a 5.0 weighted scale, and you do not suffer from massive grade inflation, a 4.2 is outstanding and is good enough to get into the best colleges you mentioned. You are “that guy” who everyone hates because he complains that his outstanding grades are not exceptional enough. Go away, please.

“Hey guys, I got a 2380 on the SAT but I’m very sad, I didn’t even get a 2400!”
“Guys I’m not happy, I only got into Stanford which is not even an Ivy like Harvard or Princeton!”
“I’m the president of 6 clubs and the captain of 2 sports teams, do you think this is good enough to look good on college apps?”
You sound like this.

^ Not really. The last time I checked an overall g.p.a of 3.5 U.W. is not equivalent to the g.p.a needed for top tier schools, which is what you implied with the SAT score.

I was (attempting) to imply that OP is complaining about something that the vast majority of students would be happy, if not ecstatic, about. At my school at least, a 4.2 is top 3(ish)% of the grade, and my school has the second highest SAT scores for public schools in our state. I would have been less sarcastic to OP if he/she hadn’t sounded like getting a 4.2 is the end of the world. Had OP been less dramatic and more realistic I would have responded accordingly.

This annoyed me in particular. A 4.2 is far from failure. If I asked 95% of my grade if they would take a 4.2, they would.

Okay, first off I’m not even like that… the only reason I’m freaking out about my grade right now is because my freshman year sucked (I had a C!) that is why I’m trying to improve myself and I have to set my standards high to be able to make up the mistakes that I did last time…

calm ur poop, dude(ette). u will be fine. just try to bring it up. if u can’t at all and are really struggling, then perhaps you ought to reconsider class choice. take some slightly easier classes if you can’t handle the work load and worry about a severly impacted gpa. but, honestly, ur gpa is FINE. stop fretting.

^ lol. yeah, it’s always easier to do really when you’ve already established a trend of doing really well. but, worry not. live as you know it is not over. good luck.
