4 AP's?

So it’s time to start looking at classes for next year and I have 4 AP’s planned:
AP Calc BC (reputation: high workload)
AP Micro+Macro (low workload)
AP Physics I (low workload)
AP Psych (high workload)
Does that seem doable with extracurriculars and sports? For reference I took AP Chem and APUSH this year with 4 other classes and have had all A’s. Thanks.

That honestly seems a bit off, AP Psych is usually one of the easier ones, and should be easier than AP Physics (which you put as low).

BC is pretty hard, while Micro/Macro are eh…

Yeah apparently there’s a lot of outlines, readings etc. for psych at my school. AP Physics I’m not expecting to be too bad, since it’s algebra based. Micro/macro has a reputation for being pretty easy, and BC will probably be my hardest.

What AP Physics are you doing? 1, 2 or C?

As stated in the original post, AP Physics 1.

Keep in mind that the AP Physics 1 exam has had the lowest percentage of 5’s in each of the last 2 years - about 4%. While every AP class’s workload is dependent, in part, on the teacher, if yours has a low workload, you will probably need to do a lot of work on your own to succeed on the exam.

^ or… Don’t plan on taking the ap exam
As for AP psychology, is it because it’s an AP or because you’re fascinated by psychology?

AP Physics C has a much, much higher pass rate than AP Physics 1. This isn’t because it’s easier (quite the opposite, actually), but it’s because it appeals to a much smaller and motivated group. The only reason for the low pass rate for Physics 1 is the large number of students taking it…

The thing about AP Psychology is that the exam is very easy. Almost all of it is multiple choice, I believe there’s 1 essay question. I feel you can do it.

That seems very doable and an average schedule for a high performing student at a school that offers a lot of APs. My experience is my kids found Micro/Macro to be more work than Psychology but I guess every school is a bit different. My kids got 5s on all those exams. Good luck!

I’m taking AP Physics C, AP Lit, AP Gov (Comp/American), AP French, AP Calc AB this year (senior year) and am having no trouble keeping all A’s with a good amount of ECs (Newspaper, Literary Magazine Online Magazine Editor, School Broadcasting Team, Speech, Theatre and about four special interest clubs that meet once a week/biweekly/monthly) - I don’t play a sport though. My junior year, I took APUSH and AP Lang but had more overall difficulty keeping A’s due to standardized test stress. Senior year, if any, is when you take more than two APs.

AP Physics C has a higher pass rate, but if you’re taking Calc concurrently you need to be putting in the work. If you don’t think you can handle BC calc, I’d suggest AB. It depends on what your school policy is on taking Physics C if you’re taking Calc concurrently or if you’re doing AB v BC

I don’t know about Macro or Psych, but I’ve had many friends who have taken those classes and many of them say, by far, that Psych has less of a workload.

Seems reasonable to me.

I wouldn’t do Calc AB and Physics C, because you will need to apply many concepts and skills learned in calc BC to physics.
