I was originally going to do a 4th year of Spanish online, but my parents feel that it would be too much. What do you guys think? (I’m shooting for NYU, UC Berkeley, and UMich)

I’m a junior right now and I had a similar decision to make last year, and I chose not to opt for the Spanish.

I regret it. This, in part, is because my college goals have changed, and the schools I’m now thinking of “recommend” four years of a language. If you’re really set on your college list, none really care about foreign language, but if you think it migt change, I’d recommend taking it.

Some majors at some schools require either 4 years of HS Spanish (or any language), or the equivalent taken in college.

Sorry for hijacking this thread but can someone also tell me if you do spanish online somewhere which is teacher led and UC-Approved would this be considered a year of spanish which can be seen on school transcript.

Depends on your school, @lolkar.

It’ll help but it’s not the be all end all

Look at the requirements for schools of interest.

E.g., For U Mich:

Will you be instate for one of umich or UC’s and which ?

What are your match schools? You have reaches, but you need affordable match schools too.
What is your state?

@MYOS1634 I’m in state for UMich.
@bopper all three are matches. My safeties are pitt, u of arizona, and rutgers. My reaches are Northwestern and John’s Hopkins. My gpa is 3.8UW and my act is 30, which I plan to retake next year.

4th year of Spanish will help with UMich but not required for UC’s. Main issue with UC’s is that it’s 60K with no financial aid and you need to have art to be considered for admission.

Make sure you ask your parents how much they can afford…often you need to be very poor or very rich to afford some of these schools. you have chosen out of state schools…often they can be expensive.
