5-Year Undergrad/Grad Vet Program?

Hey everyone,

I've already pretty much decided that I want to be a veterinarian in the future. I've heard there being talk about Cornell U. having a 5-year undergrad/grad veterinary program, but I'm kind of confused about whether it really exists or not. Also, if it doesn't, would you happen to know if there are any schools where they do have the program? And would you recommend taking the course, or would it be better to take the usual 8-year route?

Thanks bunches. :D

The Cornell vet school has something called early admission. You apply during your sophomore year but have to have most of the pre-requisites and your GRE done. If you get accepted, you complete your junior year as an undergraduate and the next year you would attend the Cornell Vet college. Basically, you complete your DVM in seven years.

Here is a link with the information.

If you are definitely dedicated to being a vet and have worked with a vet, try applying to Kansas State university. They have a special early admission program…read about it here:

I’m not sure what other universities have to offer. These were the only ones I researched when I was applying to a university my senior year.

Hope this helps.

5 years seems pretty short for finishing vet school and undergrad…

@jtp17 - Oh, gosh, thanks so much for that Cornell link-- I’ve been searching for it for forever. That was extremely helpful-- thank you! :D

@ZFanatic - Yeah, it is, actually, but hey, it saves 3 years of your life; why not? ;D I know for a fact that Washington State University has a program that is 5 years long, but because I live in NYC, I don’t want to travel so far from home. That’s pretty much why I popped this question. ^^
