61 on my first AP gov test...help

I studied for hours my summer terms and reading, and got my summer test back today and ended up doing horrible. 23/50 of the multiple choice and a 17/20 on my essay. I thought I grasped most of the concepts, but I simply did not have a good performance on the test.

Should I drop this elective for something I can get an Easy A in ? This is my first and only AP class and I am a junior.
The rest of my schedule is:
Honors us 2
honors modern fction
honors business management
cp bio
cp pre calc
cp spanish 4
gym

Lol I have a B- in history right now. I’m in honors history, but it’s the hardest history class in the school.

It’s just one test; I failed my first one, too. You should get used to the class, but if you really can’t handle it, then you should drop it.

Of course not. What kind of person surrenders after only one fall?

Study smarter next time.

Why are you in Gov junior year?

Drop this class, and take it senior year. My suggestion is to participate in class discussions more, and really pay attention. Engage in the conversations…that’s how you will remember more.

Absolutely not.

Drop it if you want.

I had to drop my AP Chem class, because I got a 46% on the first test and a 45% on the second test.

Now I’m taking Honors Philosophy.

Wow, this reminds me of a class I just recently dropped…
Anyway, I would suggest that you do what’s in your best interest. If you believe that the class is too difficult or that you won’t have enough time to invest in the class, then I would suggest that you drop it. However, if you find yourself enjoying the class and feel that you can handle the amount of work, I would suggest you stay in the class.

^ I completely disagree except for this part "I would suggest you stay in the class. " =)

^Wouldn’t you agree with that last whole sentence in its entirety then? lol

I don’t enjoy government. I think it’s a huge joke and it bores the hell out of me. So, no, not the entire sentence.

I do recommend being interested in a AP BEFORE picking it. Dropping is lame.

Perhaps, but there is nothing wrong in dropping it if you find that you are not going to be able to handle the amount of work presented. Also, point taken haha:)

Hmm I’ve heard AP Gov is supposed to be a joke. tbh looking at you college you have so many CP classes and few Honors courses as a Junior. It looks to me as if you simply aren’t capable of obtaining an A in this class.

If you genuinely enjoy AP Gov keep it. I mean give it a couple more weeks and of your performance stays the same drop it, and opt for an easier class.

Yikes – that makes me feel little nervous about my own situation with AP Gov & Politics.

Personally, I think you should just hang in there for a bit and see how you perform on the other tests. I have a tendency to do bad usually on the first few tests of certain subjects. I guess it takes me a while to adjust with the course/format of tests and develop my own study method, but I do get around eventually. And you already mentioned that you felt like you grasped most the concepts well, so maybe it’s just case of you not performing well on that particular test.

I would just hang in there and if you really feel like you exhausted all the options (participating in class, asking for help, study smarter, etc.) and it is still pulling you down tremendously - you MIGHT want to drop it.

We can’t even drop classes once they’ve been incorporated into our schedules.

Don’t feel bad, I made a 46 on my first Anatomy test. I did get the chance to earn extra points today though. There isn’t any way to transfer to another AP?

Why would you drop a class after the first test? If anything, you’d be more encouraged to do better on the next one since you know what the tests are like now. Don’t be a quitter just because it gets hard. College is going to be even harder depending on your major.
