How bad is that score?
My GPA is 4.2, I have a couple of extracurriculars, do I have a chance at Northwestern or any of the Ivies? Will being a female applying to engineering help?

Unfortunately, it takes more than “a couple of extracurriculars” for an Ivy. What’s your overall SAT/ACT score?

Post more information so we could help!

If you’re just asking about that specific subject and your chances as an engineering applicant at the ivies – then yes I imagine that score will hurt. I’m sure it’s a red flag when a prospective engineering major is sending in a subpar math II score. If you can avoid sending that score in, then I would probably not report it. Even if you weren’t applying for engineering, any score below a 700 isn’t doing you any favors at the ivies or similar schools. If you have the opportunity to retake it then do so (best to shoot for 750+), or just don’t send it in

EDIT: This is just my opinion, but I don’t really know the rest of your profile or other test scores either

my other scores are:

SAT reasoning: 800 CR; 680 math; 690 writing
SAT II: 770 bio, 640 physics, 740 US history

and I have already sent everything in, the idiot that I am

I’m also captain of our school Academic Decathlon team and I was in Science Bowl for two and a half years

Now be optimistic and hope for the best. You have pretty good SAT 1 scores. :D

For engineering, it will hurt especially at schools of NW’s selectivity. Hopefully you have some less selective schools on your list.

One score will not hurt you. I got into a school more selective than Northwestern and as selective as some Ivies with that exact same score, 660 in Math II.

They look at the whole package, not just one score.

What’s your backup plan?

Cornell becomes a high match if you can bring Math 2 to 730+…

My D got a 740 math 1 but a 670 math 2. Can’t figure it out considering she got a 4 AP calc a/b gets good grades and got a 740 SAT 1 math. Will this kill her chances in admission into engineering?

A 660 on Math is very, very low for a top-tier STEM program. Most top STEM programs expect 800 in Math or very close to it.

Also, by way of advice (and pelase don’t get insulted). You will not make it thru an Engineering program if you could only manage a 660 on the Math SAT.

^ I agree. That score is around national average and is not what top schools or engineering schools looking for…
