680 Satii, 5 Ap

so i got a 680 on the SAT II in bio and a 5 on the AP Biology exam, will colleges look down on my 680 even though i got a 5 in bio on the AP exam?

May raise questions, but it's better this way around. You get college credit and it is a harder course. Do you know why you scored low-ish, like didn't have time or prep or?

i really didn't prepare for it. i took it in june after studying for the AP exam. yeah, it's not a 700+ but i think i'll still be fine, i hope. At least its not like a 500 and a 5, that'd be weird.

Same thing with my daughter, a 5 on the AP Bio test and a 670 (estimate about 75th percentile) on the SAT II in Bio. She also took the June SAT II. She did study for it. But maybe the SAT Subject Test just covers somewhat different material? Maybe it is broader than the AP test? That's all I can think of to account for the difference.

The SAT II is different in some ways. I recieved the history award this year at school, got a 5 on USH AP and generally felt history was a breeze. I took the SAT II, and yes I did get a 790, but I did struggle with a lot of the questions, broke a sweat, and had to reason more than usual - I came out of the exam feeling terrible.

The SAT II is more conceptual rather than straight up memorization. AP Bio will ask you what the molecular structure of a phospholipid-right down to the hydroxyl groups and number of carbons-whereas the SAT II is broader and would ask which organelles phospholipids are found in. If you get so caught up in the detail, like in AP as there is no time to review, then you could have lost out on some easy but overlooked understanding.

The SAT II is challenging and does require either a passion in the subject or a very solid understanding. I am sure that an admissions officer would look favorably upon AP Bio and would be willing to overlook the SAT II instead of wondering why you didn't send in your AP grade but had a 760.

thanks for the help lordbritish,
yeah, i was just thinking right now, and since the SATII is based off of high school biology and how you fair in that, and the AP exam is based off of college biology and how you'd fair in that, i've concluded a good ap score trumps the above average(not excellent) sat II score.

I got a 790 / 4 on US History.

How does sending AP scores work? Is there a way to do it online? Can they help in the admissions process?

A 4 is good, you get credit for it at college. And that 790 is excellent. You just call up collegeboard and get them to send your scores to the college for a lovely little fee.

I wish collegeboard would just "onlinize" AP scores. It'd be so much easier that way.
