This was the first time I took the SAT; I got 1600 on the other two sections. I'm taking the Literature SAT II this autumn - should I just focus on that? I'm homeschooled and haven't studied much English formally.

I'm also an international requiring a lot of financial aid, so will even 740 (the 98th percentile on CR) not be good enough? Should I retake, if I have time, for the colleges that superscore?

Please help!

do not retake. waste of time. just work on submitting a strong overall application.

Retaking a 2340 might give adcoms the wrong impression of you as neurotic or score obsessed. Because you’re homeschooled you’re already at a higher risk of being perceived this way, so I would advise not to retake.

According to a reply I got from Amherst, colleges themselves place more emphasis on scores if an applicant’s homeschooled. It makes sense, if you think about it.

^ They place more emphasis on Subject tests and AP’s because grades in home school “classes” are less reliable. I mean, what parent is gonna fail their own kid? But there is a stereotype of homeschool kids having bad social skills so keep that in mind when applying to colleges.

^They place more emphasis on the Reasoning Test as well. Although I’m also taking Lit, I’m not entirely sure how comparable that is to CR.

Also, I fail to see what bad social skills have to do with this subject of retaking a test. Getting a 2400 doesn’t mean locking yourself in your room all day.

Ya thats definitely good enough-now worry about your other things.
