750+ MATH SAT'ers- Study Tips

you 750 sat-ers, how did u study? Seriously. No jokes. Did u use a specific book, read widely, or use another technique. Pass on the knowledge.

...yea i just ripped off the verbal thread :)

I improved from a 650 to a 800 in one week. No joke (infact it was this week).

Do SAT 1600 by Kaplan. Once u do the math, you'll be able to handle the hard problems. Then do tests from teh 10 reals. Thats where i got most of my practice from. If u still need practice, do the math workbook by kaplan and whatever sat math problems u can get ur hands on (barrons makes a good math workbook i heard but i didn't use it). And always read the question very explictly because they often hide traps inside the question. Never ever assume a question without reading it because thats usually what will trip u up if u don't read teh cruical info.

10 Real SATs helped a bit. I got 780-800 on all the practice tests in that book but, depressingly, only got a 770 on the real thing. This was up from a 730. It wasn't that big of an improvement question-wise though because my 730 was 3 wrong and the 770 was 2 wrong - a difference of 40 points for one question... Biggest thing to remember, like previous poster said, is to just recognize the tricks and don't make stupid mistakes. Also, I practiced so that I consistently had 8 minutes left to check my answers on the long math sections.

I got 800 in math from practice test. u got u keep practicing and practicing worksheets. i didn use work books. i used these three book for math, and u can find them at ur library:
Crackin the SAT and PSAT
10 real SATs (great practice)
Barron's (best, hardcore practice and full review of all subjects) <-----GREAT 4 MATH
and do hard wksts. go to this site:takesat.com and there will be gr8 wksts. 4 free. that site is da best man. PM me if u need more help.

eh...i got from 650 to 680...next time...i'm going for more!....but i just got to learn to study....thanks for hte tips

so the Barrons workbook is recommended?

just the normal prep book is enough and use it with takesat.com. the workbook is, i tink, exactly based on the prep book. just buy the prep book. it will be worth it.

i have no tips 4 math except 4 practice, practice in practice. thats the only tip any1 can give on line. go to takesat.com. all u need is practice. other tips r basic strategies, that u allready know(like start from c, cuse its the middle. dont use all the time for any 1 problem. etc.)

I improved from 500 to 760 in a year...lol
Ill say 10 Real Sat helps the most.

I went from 690 to 780 in a span of 6 months. Really it comes down to going through stuff like 10 Reals and doing practice SAT level math problems.

Treated the Barron's IIC book like the Bible (I'm not Christian tho...). I took its 9 tests 3 times and got an 800 on my first try.

how does 10 real sats help so much? there aren't any answer explanations!

coreankim. this is satI.
but, daNG! you took actually took all 9 of them?! and 3 times?!

wow coreanki. and tigeruppercut:
ten reals has the full review, but no explanations. why?cause they want u to formulate ur own methods and explanations. go to studyhall.com for 10 reals explanations.

I went from a 690 to a 710 in 8 months, that really really blows

adjlad,
I got a 800 in SAT I Math and 800 in SAT II Math IIC
Honestly I would advise you to start off by taking one test from any guide book which details your strengths and weaknesses. After that pick up your weakenesses and go through your Algebra/Geometry/Trigonometry/Precalculus etc Textbooks and go over your weaknesses one by one.
I honestly find this study technique to be of maximum use and I am not a big fan of studying those condensed cram notes from the Barron's, Kaplan etc. Therefore my best advise to you and everyone would be to study a topic one by one instead of just taking a multitude of practice tests. You should take the practice tests to improve your timing but that should come after you have learnt/grasped all your weaknesses.
Good luck
