on my math psat i got a 63. I need some tips on improving this so i will get a 700+ on the sat. Which workbooks should i use? any tips will be helpful.

anyone?????????/

First off, look at the how to improve thingie on the PSAT score report so you know what your major problems are so you know what to focus on. Practice tests are your best friend, I would just use the Official Guide to the New SAT and do practice sections. Each time you get a question wrong look at it, ask yourself why you got it wrong and make note of the topic. Study everything you get wrong, and ask yourself what you could have done to get it right. Also, you must ask yourself why you got it wrong: whether you didnt know the material, didnt know what to do but knew the material, stupid error, etc. After you do a lot of practice tests you would have been exposed to all of the material covered on the SAT, and if you learned everything you got wrong you should be in good shape and know what to expect. Sorry my post is all over the place and I dont feel like revising it.

thanks, any more tips?

Get all the tips and stuff down from a prep book like Princeton Review, then take practice tests...identify what you gotta improve along the way, like probability or whatever. When you take the real thing, don't rush through, take your time and get make sure you get all the answers right w/o missing a shred of the question. It's really easy to let the math score drop like a rock from careless mistakes.

barron 's study guides are always the best.
If you can master the SAT prep book from Barron, there is nothing to worry.

just try harder in math class and take a bunch or practice tests. Its not that hard once you get the hang of it.

if you know math, just do practice tests and get to know SAT type math questions.
(doesn't matter which book you use)
Then, if you want to get 750+, eliminate stupid mistakes (hard thing to do)

Erm, I didn't study at all but I hear the 10 Real SAT's is the best for reviewing, but not if you actually need to learn the material. Which I hope you don't since SAT 1 math is middle school level.

any more tips?

Umm, writing "read the ****ing question" and "don't make stupid mistakes" on the inside of your graphing calculator cover and eat chocolate during the test. hey, it worked for me! 800M! :p

Yah..i have only taken my PSATs as a sophomore so far, and got a 70...and I made COMPLETELY dumb mistakes on two, and one was just ridiculous busywork that took forever...just make sure to check your work real well...

If math is your only problem, get the real sat book and practice only math, and go over your errors. Make sure to go over answers that you guessed on too!

yea I agree the Real SAT book is the best.
I got a 760 math in 7th grade by using mostly that book.
Get in as many practice tests...

I got an 800 in the math section. Here are some of the tips that might help:
1. Get through the first 30 questions or so as fast as possible, without being careless of course. They are the most basic and the test basically goes for easiest to most difficult.
2. The last 10-15 questions would be the ones that get you, so save time for them. And always be aware of the clock
3. When in doubt, plug and chug. One of the given answers is correct.
4. The questions where you must generate the correct answer are significantly easier than the multiple choice questions.
5. Process of elimination can also be extremely helpful.

Hope this helps!

thanks!!!!!!
