Super pissed. 1 point away on my final from keeping my B- in the class, now I have to deal with this C+. How much does this hurt?
You can get into plenty of colleges with a C+ in Honors Alg 2. Schools will look at your entire curriculum, not just 1 class, when making a decision.
How do you think it harms my chances at things like UCSB, UCI, Cal-Poly?
It depends on the rest of your grades, and the whole package. If this is the only C on your transcript, not much harm. If it’s one of several, different story. Sorry you’re bummed.
Why DID you get a C?
Well, I got it because the class was hard. 1 point (!!!) away from a B-! She wouldn’t bump me.
My soph grades ended up being around 3.7 weighted. How does that look?
I’d be more focused on making sure you understand the material – algebra comes up again in calculus, at which point it’s assumed you know it thoroughly.
One C+ will impact your chances at some schools, but if your other grades are solid A’s and B’s, then you should be OK. Agree with @bodangles, that making sure you know the material before continuing on in a higher level of Math is more important.
You have another year to bump up your GPA so work hard and study hard.
I think I know the material pretty well. The average grade in that class was a 76, and people that switched from Alg 2 H 1st semester with C-'s ended with A - A+ in regular Alg 2 (what I should have done). Should I take a summer school for Alg 2 second semester to raise the GPA?
Re-take the class if you believe that will help you master the subject. Don’t take it just to try to raise your grade. That looks like grade-grubbing. You did get. C+ after all. It isn’t like you actually failed the course.
