8th Grade High School Grades

I'm not sure if this has been asked before on here (probally has) but how do most elite colleges factor the grades people got in 8th grade if they took high school courses in 8th grade? I took a foreign language, science, and math high school course in 8th grade which all are on my transcript, so would colleges:

Ignore it

Factor it

Minimize it

and how would places like MIT and stanford who discount 'freshmen' year do it? would they count it or discount it since it was the first year of HS grades. I personally hope they count it cause i did a lot better in those 3 courses in 8th than i did in freshman year =</p>

I am not sure about your school, but I took weighted math and science courses as an 8th grader and they were factored into my freshmen GPA.

My 7th/8th grade math/science courses, although they were at a ninth or tenth grade level, won't be factored into my HS GPA. It depends on the school.

Most colleges will take them out anyway.

I took Algebra I and French I in 8th grade, and those classes count towards our graduation requirements for high school--we get credit for them.

It depends on your school. When my friend was in 8th grade his middle school let him take freshman honors geometry at my current high school. It shows up on his transcript as a course he took freshman year. So lucky for him he is ahead in math.

Just get a copy of your transcript and ask your school about it.

They'll see it and take it into consideration, but it won't make much of a difference. It won't be factored into your GPA.

My sons' schools count all HS classes taken in middle school and factor them into weighted and unweighted GPA. No separate number for 9-12 unless the colleges recalculate. DS1 has a class from when he was 10 yo on his HS transcript.
I quit worrying about it after reading all the posts on here about how college recalc everything anyway.

yea im kinda worried about that too,
I took Alg. I in 8th grade and got D+ ... hard times lolz
and now I realize how important that grade was
but I hear if you are progressively getting better and better each year,
they wouldn't mind the 8th grade ones, even the freshmen grade too!

My Algebra 1 went on my transcript for high school, but I got an A so it really doesn't matter to me. I don't think colleges will care to much if you have a bad grade in a class you took 5 years prior to applying.

I think my school counts em since I got a copy of my general HS transcript so far a few weeks ago and the 3 courses I took were on there - my school doesnt tell us our class rank or culmative GPA until we graduate, so students are pretty much left in the dark. Well, only 50% of the class goes onto 4 yr college so i guess ppl dont care much (10% no college, 40% Community College or so)

^If you ask the counselor or principal about your class rank and GPA, I would think they'd tell you. How can they withhold that information? If you ask them, they pretty much have to tell you. At least your GPA, anyway.
