A C in first semester senior year

I am taking an online AP Economics course through Virtual High School, but ended up with a 70 in it. The main reason for that grade is because I never got to turn in the assignments on time (midnight) because I got home late from sports every day. To give you a brief idea of my stats, I am in top 5% of the class, 4.0 GPA up through junior year, have all As in senior year except for the C in AP Econ, have good ACT and SAT Subject Test scores, participate in sports and a couple school clubs. How much would that C affect my chances? Should I consider dropping it? I am applying to Cornell, Columbia, BC, NYU Stern, Barnard, Swarthmore, Northwestern, Rice, Richmond, and Chicago. I plan to major in business (marketing) at schools like BC, NYU, and Richmond or psychology at Cornell, Columbia, etc.
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Also applying to Villanova! Can’t believe I left it out.

Can you really “drop” it this late in the school year. Or do you mean not take the second semester. If the latter then it doesn’t sound as though this course is a priority for you, and so I would think dropping it is wise. That said I expect that the “C” in the first semester is part of your your permanent record.

That’s what I thought. However, it’s an online course, so its academic calendar doesn’t fit with my school’s (it has 3 terms while my school has 4 quarters). As a result, I’m not sure how it will show up on the mid-year report. I can’t contact my school GC because it’s holiday break. I don’t want to drop it because I love learning the course material. But the fact that the grade I got in it is significantly jeopardizing my college chances make me consider dropping the course.

bump. How much does it hurt my chances? Is there anything I can do at this point?
Advices would be appreciated.

One C isn’t terrible but it obviously does not look good. If you are extremely borderline, it could make a difference, but chances are the C won’t hurt you. If it was the end of a trimester, it should be on your transcript, which means DO NOT drop it. These universities will laugh at you if they see you took an online course, got a C, and then dropped it- or, based on when they request transcripts, they might not see it at all, and you will have lost a valuable learning experience. Instead, get an A next trimester. There’s not much else you can do.

Thanks for the advice!
Good to know that I shouldn’t drop it.
