a couple of C's 1st semester senior year affect admissions

I was wondering if 1 or 2 C's 1st semester in ap classes would seriously affect my chances for admission if I am aiming to top private colleges (ie northwestern, emory, usc). I am gonna try my best to raise them to at least B's but if not does anyone have any experience with this?

Hi Altamont,

I am actually having a similiar problem (AP Spanish 5 is impossible for a non-latino person) and I have to say that it really depends on how your transcript has been. I feel that if you have mostly As on your transcript, the 1 or 2 C may stick out like a sore thumb (this is my worry for Spanish), but I don’t think it will make or break your application. Also, I would say that if u were a 98 in Calc AB last year and a 75 in Calc BC this year, that basically tells the committee that you have gotten lazy and /or sloppy. Honestly, 1 or 2 are not going to have much effective, but if it becomes a pattern (next semester 3 Cs) it could turn into a problem.

Regards,
Google

It won’t destroy you, but will certainly hurt at places like Northwestern and USC.
