A day late and a dollar short?

Okay, I feel somewhat discouraged seeing all the acceptance news etc. concerning FSU.

Mainly because I have a few issues I feel will result in a rejection...

I only have a 24 ACT score and a 1630 SAT score, making me skeptical in the first place. However, this year I was switched into Pre Calc about two months into school because of a scheduling error on the school's behalf. As a result, I received a D on my transcript for the class (It makes me laugh because I've never come close to a D in school... ridiculous). Should I call FSU and tell them I'm going to re-take PreCalc over summer, and that the D really doesn't represent my work ethic and or academic record, because it doesn't. Other than that, I'm a 4.3 GPA student, with four years of excellent varsity sports, a good (IMO) essay and credentials. But the combination of low test scores and this class have me very, very worried.

I appreciate any help, thank you!

I got in with a 4.2 and 1590 SAT so I think you are good! but It doesn’t hurt to call either! and see what you can do!

well you need to speak to an admissions officer and let them know if you think it is necessary. what is your unweighted and weighted gpa?

FSU values GPA in rigorous courses more than test scores, especially those tests you can take over and over.

Thank you for the positive responses! I have a 4.3 or so weighted, and a 3.7 unweighted. I’m taking all academic classes this year (2 AP’s, 2 DE’s, 2 honors). The admissions office is Mon-Fri I think, so I’ll give them a call on Monday…

My daughter was accepted with the same ACT score, 4.3 FSU gpa, big leadership position and a very rigorous senior schedule with all AP and dual enrollment. I would think that you would have a good shot but wish you would have applied first round, as I am sure expectations become higher later in the game. There is an area in the application where you could let them know something that might affect your application. You may still be able to access it and explain your D. I would call the office as well. They are very helpful. Good luck!

Hmmmmm Me thinks this new poster is David (you know, the Peruvian or Cuban) I can’t keep up; not the first time he changed his name, LOL. I hope my daughter never has to come across this character! Poster, stay positive and give it your best shot. Don’t let one random idiot bring you down!

LOL! Name changer, huh? A little pathetic to me…But thank you, there’s no reason to not be positive about the whole situation…if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.

It sounds like you’re a great mom (like mine), and there should be more people like you in the world!

While I completely disagree with how that poster went about saying it, they did point out some of the issues with your academic profile.

People have reported since the first round of admissions that they were deferred or outright rejected from FSU for having one D on their transcripts, yet had otherwise stellar profiles.
Add onto that that your SAT and ACT are a bit low, and that you are applying for the second decision deadline (which is notorious for being much more difficult to get accepted) and I think it’s going to be tough to get accepted.

That said, FSU values academic rigor a lot, and you have that working for you. As for the D you received last semester, yes, you should absolutely contact FSU about it.

The bottom line though is that you really are applying for the tougher decision date, and while you have academic rigor in your favor, that’s not necessarily going to get you in. Others with better profiles have gotten denied simply for getting a D in a class.

LOL. The name changer deleted his post! Please don’t return David!
