Hi CC. I was Wondering, what book should i use for the SSAT. I am looking for a book with Vocabulary in it that I can study, and I also want a book that is excellent for math. I am less worried about analogies because I am good at them. Because I am as anxious as I am, can You also reccomend a tutor company-etc... That is helpful and cheap enough.
Suggestions on how to do better?
Thanks!

Your grades and extra curiculars (even if not provided by your school) seem excellent, and if the interview went as well as you say it did, along with the recomendations then all it really comes down to is the SSAT. Not to say it’s all dependant on that, but it does play a role.

I’d recommend the Princeton Review book for SSAT practice, it had lists and lists of vocab words and a huge section on math. I can’t offer you much help with a tutor, I never did that personally, though it probably would have helped.

Have you considered adding any more schools other than Exeter to your list? Don’t get me wrong, it’s a wonderful school, but I hate to see people limit themselves by only looking at the top schools, or just one in particular. But maybe there’s more of a reason behind that then I know, and it’s none of my business, just throwing it out there :)

Good luck!

Thanks for all the wonderful information! I will purchase the Princeton Review Book and I hope to get a tutor to help me with the SSAT too. I would have liked to apply to other schools but that means going to an interview at that particular school or near it at the least, and I live in New York, which is about a five hour drive from New Hampshire and New England in General. Because I haven’t heard about Boarding Schools in or Near NY, It will be tough for me to interview, not to mention the workload that I will have with that one application and loads of Homework. Suggestions on a Boardingschool near NY?

Thanks, You are a big help!

Which ones are the best? I’ve heard of Ross School-Is that an excellent school too?

Thanks!

I’m not really familar with any of these schools but if you’re a girl, I’ve heard that Emma Willard is a really good school. I also heard Millbrook and Stony Brook mentioned a few times on this forum, so they may also be worth a look.

Out of all of those NY BS listed above I would consider Masters, Millbrook and maybe Ross. You will be over qualified for the rest. Samantha is right about adding some more schools to your list. Look at some NJ schools such as Blair,Lville,Peddie.

Ok thanks, but no, I’m male. I will apply to those schools, but I hope that I get into Exeter because it is my favorite school. Not that this is important, but I wanted to know-What You think, which school is better-Exeter or Andover?

My personal preference is Andover =p but many say they are cut from the same cloth. They are quite similar, both use the Harkness methods of teaching, both a MA based school. However, Andover is located in a slightly bigger city than Exeter and generally Exeter has stricter rules more structure to their day and a uniform. One of my favorite quotes I’ve read about Exeter; “Where your best hasn’t been good enough since 1781.”
