A few questions about Villanova

I visited Villanova with my school today and I'm fairly sure I'll be applying in November. I know Villanova has a renowned undergrad engineering program and is top 20 in the nation in business. However, I'm not overly interested in either of these majors. I'm more interested in English. I'm honestly not exactly sure what career i'd like to pursue down the line, but my area of expertise is writing. I'm an average math and science student, and not interested whatsoever in math and science heavy majors. I have a high GPA (around 3.8 unweighted) and, upon recieving my SAT scores in a week, will have more than likely scored around a 1300-1400 for math and reading combined.

So that poses a few questions:
1. Does Villanova have a respectable english department?
2. Are there any specific majors that fall under business that are more tailored to a kind of creative, administrative position where I will be able to utilize writing (I'm not interested in crunching numbers and scouring the stock market etc.)
3. Are there any schools similar to Villanova- small-medium population, a few miles from a big city, fairly prestigious, and with a great campus- that are more writing and english oriented?

Thanks in advance
Mike

Would you be interested in English with a possibility of going into law?

What about paying for college? Villanova is expensive. Will your parents pay $50k+ each year for you to go to college?

If not, and your scores are good, you should consider some schools that will give you big merit for your stats.

Do you go to a private high school?

I would possibly consider law. I’m still largely undecided
The average financial aid for a Villanova student with both merit and need based money granted to them is 26k, almost exactly half the fee to attend.
And yes, I go to a private, catholic high school in central New Jersey.

bump…anyone? especially when someone asks me questions, I answer, and they don’t reply

Well, there are a few liberal arts colleges in the same area as Villanova such as Haverford, so I’d give those a shot, since they automatically satisfy the ‘near a big city’ criterium…since they’re in the same city.

I recently have been admitted into Villanova for Engineering, so I’ve been looking a lot at their website. Although English doesn’t seem to pop out at me as something it’s very famous for, most liberal arts colleges are great for writing. If I were you, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to apply to Haverford. It’s pretty prestigious, if you ask me.

I’d also consider Pomona or Pitzer, since they’re famous and are right next to LA. They also allow you to take courses in the affiliated Claremont Colleges, which’ll help you find that business major that involves writing. =] They’re really small communities too, which is nice. Best of luck!

Sorry I missed your answers…

You can’t go by what the “average” aid/scholarships posted. That doesn’t say anything about any particular student. If your stats are high for Villanova, then you’ll get more $$ than another. If your EFC is low, then you’ll get a lot more aid.

Half the students may get $50k in aid/scholarships and the other half may get 0. That doesn’t mean that most/all get the “average” amount of $26k.

What is your EFC? What are your stats? That will more likely indicate what kind of aid you’ll get.

The reason I asked if you go to a private school is because I guessed that you do. So, now I wonder if your parents are willing to spend at least as much (or more  ) on your college costs. Some parents will, some won’t/can’t…because of younger siblings.

BTW…since you think you might go to law school, then be sure to minimize loans for undergrad. You’ll need to save your borrowing power for law school. :)

honestly nova gives a lot of money to people from different nationalites and absolutely nothing to people from america that are just average people. and engineering, business, physics, astronomy, biochem, chem, bio, nursing and comprehensive sciences major are respected and honestly not really anything besides that.
