A few questions: Financial aid/ Housing

Hey everyone. So I'm pretty much decided on going to Penn State University Park. I was accepted as a Mechanical Engineering major in November. However, before I press the "accept" button, I have a few questions...

I've been told to wait to hear from them about financial aid before accepting so I can do an appeal process. When do they usually release financial aid information? Has anyone had a successful appeal process?

After my acceptance, I retook the SAT for another college I applied to. I improved by 100 points. Would it be beneficial for me to send them my new scores in hope for more aid? Also, I haven't received an offer for new merit scholarships they are giving out this year, so would this possibly help me get one of those? (Would they consider the new score?)

And, one last question...

I've been told by my counselor to commit before March to avoid supplemental housing and to get my preferred housing option. Has anyone had any problems with housing after committing late?

Thanks for reading/ answering. I know I asked a lot of questions :P.

You can wait until late March and still be fine for housing, and supplemental isn’t that awful, anyway. As far as financial aid, that information came with your acceptance letter or soon after. PSU is not known for financial aid, so you can appeal but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Okay, thank you very much.

Right now, Penn State is sending out letters for a new set of merit aid scholarships. Apparently, they are not offering the aid to anyone who has put down a deposit already. I’d wait a couple weeks to accept so you don’t lose out on that option, but I wouldn’t wait a couple months. Supplemental housing could involve having 7 roommates.

Okay that makes sense, thanks.
