Hello, I got accepted into UP a couple months ago and I am just about ready to accept the offer of admission.

One problem I have though is that they only offered me $5500 in loans as my financial aid package. I will not be able to pay off all the fees for the coming year without borrowing massive amounts of money from the bank. Would calling PSU and asking for more aid do any good? What other options do I have? Will I be able to find work on campus for example?

I also have another question about housing. Since I am still waiting on Michigan's decision (they said I will get it by Apr. 15), I have yet to pay the deposit and sign up for housing. From what I understand, it is already too late to get a decent dorm room. Will I be forced into some terrible housing or have to rent an apartment off campus or something?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you so much.

I would call. At the very least they will be able to give you information on work on campus and suggest possible sources for financing. As a student you will not be able to borrow massive amounts of money from a bank.

If you will be a freshman, you can’t live in an off-campus apartment even if you wanted to (freshmen are required to live on campus). You may get into less desirable housing - perhaps supplemental, although I’m not sure if they put freshmen there. If you do get assigned to a dorm/area you don’t like, you can try to to a switch early in the semester.

i submitted my housing contract in early december, so i’m pretty sure i have a good chance of getting the hall i requested, however my roommate didn’t submit hers until very recently, so do you think that cancels out our chance of getting the hall we want? or will we still have a good shot since mine was in so early?

if your worried aobut getting eachother as roomamtes, it shouldnt be a prob if you both indicated it on your contract. If you were both shotting for a specifc Res Hall, you may have a prob.
