A "Good" Score for the Subject Tests??

I was wondering what a “good” score for the subject tests was to UC schools.

Last week I took Chemistry and Math 2.

The UC campuses range tremendously in selectivity, but-

Berkeley, LA: above 700, hopefully 750 and up

Santa Barbara, Irvine: high 600s through high 700s

All other UCs: Generally, applicants tend not to submit SAT II’s.

It depends on the test, too. The curve on some of the tests is CRAZY. In 2016, 700 on the Math2 test was at the 46th percentile; the same score was at the 75th percentile in literature. A 800 in Math2 that year got you no higher than the 80th percentile, 99th for Lit. And if you’re not a native speaker, don’t even think about taking Korean or Chinese, where 800 is at the 60th and 63rd percentile, respectively. (A 700 is at the 10th percentile for Korean and the 12th for Chinese.)

I think this is info more kids need to investigate before they choose which tests to take.

Of course the UCs have their own ideas as well. To qualify for A-G credit, you don’t really need a high score at all. Most are mid 500. If you are looking at schools that are not top tier, they don’t expect top results.
